NERO and UDF?

I just got the newer version of Nero that gives you the option to choose UDF 1.02, 1.5 or 2.01. Which one should I use?

The version before this never gave me the option. DVDs worked on my Sony NS715P but no on a Panasonic (forgot model number). It also worked on an ancient DVD player (over 6 years old).

IIRC, 1.02 is the one supported by the MOST players.

Don't quote me on that though.

Part of the reason Nero is bad for DVD's is that is has always defaulted to 1.5 instead.

I wouldnt burn in Nero. I have the Same standalone as you. it will play both, but I have tested in many players that only support one or the other.

I would use DVD Decrypter to Rip, DVD2One to compress, then Img Tool Classic to convert to an ISO file. You can write the ISO onto DVDR using either Decrypter or Alcohol 120%.

I have only found this out fairly recently, but have found it to be fool proof. Disc's i have done using ISO images play in all the players I had previously had trouble with, and they even play in players that I had never been able to get a DVD-R to play. Best thing is, Decryter & Img Tool Classic are Freeware.

another point is always use Rytek dye based discs over Princo. Princo can fade quicker, have low longetivity and bad edges.

I have on maybe one or twice come across a player that wont play Rytek, but no where near as bad as Princo. Especially Red datawrites 4x and Grey datawrites 2x. Funnily enough though, Yellow Datawrite are very good. So are white datawrite... but they are Rytel G04 dye.

PS. Try burning in UDF 1.02 for your player that wont play them. I bet it will work. to do that you in old NERO you had to choose "DVD Rom UDF", create the VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS folders, and then drag the VOBs into the video file. I guess in new nero you can just choose 1.02 as you described. if I were you I would try 2.01 aswell, although I bet it wont work in your old player.

I edit home video for people and transfer it to DVD, and so have always had a massive issue with compatability, but as I say, ISO mode has never let me down and I now have customers whom I couldnt service before. Rytek has probably let me down twice on a range of over 50 odd players.

I use 1.5 just because my players will play them. It is true 1.02 is more accepted. It depends on what you want. Most newer players like mine play 1.5

What is the point of choosing 1.5 if 1.02 is more compatible?

I use 1.5 because when you select the DVD-Video option on nero that is the udf that it defaluts to. I don't take the extra steps to create a udf 1.02 dvd.
