I know I'm not the only one with this problem because I have seen others ask for a fix - but I've never seen an answer!

    Here's the situation:
In Windows Explorer (XP) you highlight an mpeg2 file by either left or right clicking it once. Explorer immeadiately closes, your desktop icons dissappear for a couple of seconds, then they re-appear.

I have this happening on two different computers. Both are set to display "details" under the "View" menu.

I suspect it's a problem with an Mpeg2 codec, but don't know for sure, and don't know how to troubleshoot it.

A search on Google came up empty.

  2. Hi,

Check what codec you are encoding the mpeg2 files in. If i do remember correctly in XP if the OS doesn't have the codec it pings the microsoft server for a codec - possibly Indigo Codec - but i think thats is Mpeg1.

Your desktop is trying to 'pre-view' the video file, but you don't have the codec installed. The OS will try to download the codec, but fails.

So, install the MPEG2 codec in the download section and it won't crash on you

    Thanks for the replys.

I don't know about my system not having an mpeg2 codec installed, I have WinDVD and a couple of mpeg2 editing programs installed, I thought those installed mpeg2 codecs.

Anyway, I downloaded the LSX player demo on both systems, and the crashing has stopped. I only hope when the demo expires, the crashing dosn't resume.
