  1. Hi,

I've got a Panasonic RP62 and it's supposed to play VCD's. When I put them in, the movie or show starts up but immediately freezes and just sits there. I can fast forward through it, but once I stop to play it at normal speed, it plays for about one second and then freezes. I tried recording the same VCD to a CD-RW, as I've heard they are easier for stand-alone DVD players, but the results were the same. I've tried several VCD's, all of which play fine on several computers, but they all freeze right away on the Panasonic. Also, there are no menus on the VCD I've created. I tried downloading the VCD sample on this site and burned it (using VCDEasy). I could navigate through the menus, but could not play the sample clips.

Unless anyone has any suggestions on the above, I was just going to buy another DVD player (I want one for another room anyway). Could someone recommend a DVD player that's not too expensive that they know will play VCD's? I've looked at the DVD player section where people have tested their DVD player's capabilities, but there are so many I have no idea what to pick. I just want something that isn't picky about VCD's.

    Thanks alot!

You may have gotten a lemon.
I got Panasonic RV32 and it plays VCDs and XVCDs (within limits) just fine. SVCDs with Header Trick play fine too.
Even had a commercial PAL VCD from Europe and it did play with regular NTSC TV with no external converter (Canada here). I guess it has built-in converter.

To make my videos, I use TMPGEnc and burn with VCDEasy, using mostly Fuji blanks at 4x.
