  1. I just bought this model JVC which clearly states that it supports VCD and SVCD. The comments also support it. I am able to play everything but VCDs and SVCDs. I downloaded a demo since I have never tried a VCD in a DVD to make sure I had a working one. When I put it in the disc reads and than just gets kicked back out of the tray with no message. This model does have an unrecognizable format error that I have seen and a no disc error. However neither showed up. The tray just popped open. I know the burned VCD is good because I tested it on another DVD player. The disc brand is ok because I have been abale to play MPs and JPGS from it. Any ideas what the issue is or is it just broken ??? Thanks. I would like some sure fire test if thats possible before I take it back or in for repair.

  3. Yes I have read the comments. I just tried a Verbatim Blue Azo that everyone says works and got the same thing happening. The disc reads for about 10 sec and gets kicked out without an error. I bought another JVC same model thinking maybe that the 1st was broken. No luck. I tested the cd's through the QuickVCD Player and they work and are recognized as VCD's. I even through in a non-vcd and the QuickVCD player on my PC rejected it as it should. What the heck could be going on ? Thanks.

  5. vcd and svcd. I just bought a norcent dp300 from walmart for $50. It plays everything that I have and is awesome so far. It plays the vcd and svcd disc that the other would not and even plays raw mpgs. So at least I know that it is not me but the player. More likely the player model. I still would like to get the JVC to work but right now I am just happy to know that I was doing things right and that they work. Any ideas on the JVC though still would be appreciated. Thanks.

  6. Its just the luck of the draw.
I have a GE player that plays everything I throw at it.
My mother in law has a Samsung which also claims to play VCD's and SVCDs.
I can't get any of mine to work on hers.
I only mentioned XVCDs because I know some machines will not play any non-compliant formats.
