  1. Hello,
    my system:
    Windows XP SP1, NTFS,(1Gig memory), canopus adv-c 50
i capture avis to a HD via the Canopus a/d device (80 Gig) .
When i capture to larger files (>2 G) i cannot edit the avi only the first 9 minutes are displayed .
When i try to convert lets say a 20Gig file with tmpgenc no problem .
But before i convert i wanted to edit the file.
I know its possible to capture to 2Gig chunks but shouldnt it be possbile to edit large files with my system.
I tried several versions of virtualdub for editing and even trial version of commercial software packages. Same problem everywhere .
I tried frameserving via avisynth or virtual dub too. Same problem .

    Thanks for any help

  2. Hi,

Your problem is that you've been "capturing" in Type-1 avi format.
When the software you use to transfer video from the ADVC to the hard drive wrote the file, it wrote it like a Type-1 avi file.

    What software did you use?

VirtualDub can't real Type-1 files. Well, it reads the files, but can not load the audio. Didn't you get a warning message from VirtualDub when you first loaded the file?

What you can do now is convert the Type-1 DV avi file to Type-2. And "capture" as Type-2 OpenDML avi in the future, if you wish to use VirtualDub for editing.
Do a search on Google and find a converter, but backup your original file first if you care about it. Just to be on the safe side.

VirtualDub can read both audio and video of Type-2 avi files, if you have a VFW (Video For Windows) codec installed. I can recommend Panasonic's free DV codec and you can download it here:
