  1. I have a Pioneer A03 and an A04 burner, and with both burners I have the same problem. About 1 out of 6 DVD's I burn will play on my computer and maybe my Apex, but not on any other standalone. They just don't start up. If I burn the same job without any changes the next time it may be ok. It doesn't matter what media I use, I always use name brand, it doesn't matter if the drive is slave or master, doesn't matter if I change firmware, I've tried DMA and PIO mode, it doesn't matter what burning software I use, and it's happened with two different motherboards now. It's pretty obvious it's the drives somehow. Has anyone heard of this?

  2. I am not sure if this is related...but I had to send my A04 back to Pioneer, which they replaced because it would intermittently not read DVD's only. And if I recall thier was some kind of firmware/laser issue with the A04's at least.

You may be correct in suspecting the drive.

I have a 104 which is the same as an a04--I started having some real problems with DvD's I burned playing on one of the standalone dvd's in the house and not the other.... did some searching for the issue and found somewhere that using Nero to burn /might/ be the issue, so changed to Primo/Prassi and the problem hasn't reoccured yet(but I've only burnt 2-3 DvD's since then)

  4. I have used nero, prassi, and recordnow max, all the same problem, 1 out of 6 or so DVD's will not play in standalone, only computer. The only thing left I can blame is the drives unless someone has some other idea
