Hi,
I've recently bought a Sony - NS 400D and in the DVD Players compatibility list, it's said that this player can read xVCD, first of all what is xVCD?
Is it just like VCD but with a greater bitrate (if this is the case, for this model does anyone knows what is the greatest bitrate it suports (in xVCD mode)?) or the resolution is bigger?
Does anyone has the xVCD specification?
Does anyone knows what's the bitrate that this Sony supports?
Thank You

XVCD is a VCD with either resolution or bitrate modified, or even both. I'm in the same situation as you, I bought the same player today (in UK), and am trying to test XVCDs with it. My XVCDs are 720x576 (PAL res, NTSC is lower) and a combined bitrate of around 2100kb/s. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a way of keeping the audio in sync with the video. Any help is much appreciated

I wonder if the lack of sync is due to the high bitrate? Maybe in VCD mode the reader cannot reach 2100 Kb/s.
I've read somewhere in this forum that if a DVD Player cannot read SVCD it's maximum bitrate is around 1900 Kb/s.
Have you tried to reduce the combined bitrate?
It's not really a help, but see if it works. I'll try to make a video with a 720x576 resolution and a 1900 Kb/s combined bitrate. -
Okay, basically, I've found the problem that caused my lack of synch. I always take my .mpg file (produced with CinemaCraft plugin for Flask) and demux it with bbtools, then remultiplex it with TMPGEnc. However, if I use the "Non-Standard VCD" option when remultiplexing, the video/audio lose sync, on both the Sony I'm using, and a Hitach DV505E that I had. If you use the "Standard VCD" option, you get buffer underrun, but it plays fine, and I haven't noticed any problems like this. Maximum bitrate tested so far = 2,300 + 128 = 2,428.
