  1. I've seen the Green Bar at the bottom myself, but this may surprise you, it's not the SxVCD or TMPGEnc fault's, it's the Codec you have on your system that opens up the MPEG2, i've seen this problem mostly when there are lots of MPEG2 decoding software installed, usually fixing it would be to uninstall all MPEG2 decoding programs, making sure you can't play MPEG2 anymore, and then install just one codec, and i'm quite sure everything will playback correctly.

  2. I did re encode without 3:2 pulldown and it worked. I could have too many decoding programs also. I've got Global Divx, win Mediaplayer, Power DVD.

Thanks for the help. This site and forum are great.

  3. not to bash what sefy said as im sure it has some ground, but i am SURE that that particular prob is cause by 3:2 pulldown on low-res files. BUT, i bet some mpeg2 codecs ignore that (i know the WinDVD ones dont)

  4. Xitanium, since i'm not exactly the professional regarding 3:2 Pulldown, I can't really give any solid advice, all I can do is give suggestions that might help fix the problems, but my big guess is it all depends on your MPEG2 decoding codec, if it ignored or doesn't or what features and quality it gives.

I tried, for the heck of it, to get an entire movie onto SVCD (using Sefy's template)... but, I got this too...

Would it be better to just encode in 23.976 frames first, then use pulldown.exe instead? I believe I do need 3:2 pulldown to play properly on my standalone.

I found maybe it's just TMPGEnc's fault. ATI player shows black space here instead (showed the right color, it was letterbox). PowerDVD, DVD2AVI, and TMPGEnc all did show the Green bar...

I don't expect much of a response since the topic is old...

P.S. - superficially at least, the SVCD version of my 90 minute movie looked comparable to the VCD version, same resolution and audio. I was actually imprerssed... minus green bar!

  6. If you are using DVD2AVI, your best best is probably just to use the Forced Film option there...this handles the conversion to 23.976 fps.

  7. As i've mentioned in the past, the green bar is at most a cause of the codec being used, especialy if you have several MPEG2 decoders in the system and each takes care of something else, that would cause the green line

Man, I hate to disagree here, Sefy, especially since you made the famous template, and I know nothing about SVCD. BUT...

It has little to do with the codecs. Maybe in playback, but NOT in the encode. It's something else.

When I try to do a "normal" SVCD resolution with TMPGEnc (480x480), it comes out nicely (not at nicely as CCE, but no green bar anyways). Played back on ATI file player, PowerDVD, and Media Player, all fine.

When I try a "abnormal" SVCD resolution (your template at 352x240), there is the green bar! Plus, it adds a number of pixels to the height. ATI File Player seems to play OK, PowerDVD and Mediaplayer display the green bar! This was all in the same instance of TMPGEnc, so it couldn't have loaded one codec one minute, then switched on the next encode... could it?

If this were the mixing encoding codecs, the probelm would occur on ALL SVCD, I would think... but this only happens when the odd resolution is used...

Now, there's the chance that going down to "Forced FILM" rate would clear this up, whatever it is, but I'll never know... I switched to CCE, and I actually got a 90-minute movie (in SVCD!) to fin on one disc! ONE DISC FOR SVCD! Quality was as good, but mostly BETTER than the SeVCD's I was doing! And yes, it was off-spec

  9. It is the codec causing the problem. I have done it many times and my standalone plays it fine no green bar. I watch it in mediaplayer or powerdvd and it has the green bar. It is the powerdvd codec in use in mediaplayer so that is the problem with it. I tried using lsx mpeg2 player and it displays fine (though the audio is out of sync because it ignores the pulldown).

    Hi Guys,

Had excactly the same problem here. Encoded ENEMY AT THE GATES(NTSC DVD VERSION) using Sevy's Ntsc filters.

When finished, i played it on my PC and there was the nasty green bar at the bottom.

Spilt and burned the movie onto 2 cd's, Watch it on My Toshiba 28inch PAL widescreen TV using my MICO MULTIREGION DVD PLAYER (which plays everything), and gussed what, the green bar has totally disappeared.

So now i play every VCD/SVCD/SxVCD/SeVCD/XVCD no matter if they are PAL or NTSC on my MiCO DVD player.

    Far better Quality Picture wise
    Far better sound
An i'm able to take any black borders off totally.

The only movies i watch on my PC now are Divx's.

Thank God I bailed myself out with this comment, so I don't feel like a fool...

    Hehe...

So somehow it's not really adding pixels at the bottom?

I don't really know if this helps me any or not... since (like I said) I switched to CCE... and I don't know if I need to really drop resolution again, when it seems to do good on 480x480 normally, even at low bitrate... but I have to admit maybe it sounds interesting to do... maybe I'll try that once and see what happens...

Still trying to work out some bugs with CCE though... many steps I do with TMPGEnc automatically, I have to hunt for in CCE's text files, avs files, etc etc... real pain, but it works!

Back to my question though: Are you sure it's not adding pixels at the bottom? DVD2AVI also plays the video with a green bar... bug there too?
    Quote Quote
  12. It is not really adding the green bar, it's just a codec misinterpreting the SxVCD, it has nothing to do with encoding, it's just with Playback codec, if you burn and play it on your DVD, you will see there is no green bar, and that is a proof that the green bar is NOT a part of the movie, it is just a codec problem, and it depends on the program being used, you might also have bad codecs installed, I can't narrow down the problem, that's why I always suggest to try and remove ALL MPEG2 playback codecs from the PC, and then just install one and see how it interprets the SxVCD, also, i'm quite sure this only happesn with MPEG2, since it is not included with Windows, the SeVCD does not cause the green bar effect

I noticed when I make an MPEG-2 file with 352x240 and 3:2 pulldown in TMPGEnc, the green bar is not visible on my computer when I use the MPEG-2 file and make a miniDVD ... It only happens when I use the file and make an xSVCD.

  14. Have any/some of you tried installing the LSX Suite, but only the playback codec to see if it fixes the playback problem with the green bar ? it doesn't work on 100%, but atleast on 98% of the cases it does fix the problem.

PS: I Personaly don't like the LSX Codec as it gives bad quality, but it does seem to fix the Green Bar problem on PC's i've seen it happen.

  15. Either that or has anyone actually thought about this?? MAYBE its cause the software codecs are not familiar w/ this..ahem..ahem..template, might you call it, of Sefy's. And sooooo when it sees MPEG2, it dont look for 352x240, yet it looks for what MPEG2 should be..soooooooo, anything out of standard will and most likely do have a problem or two.
    Quote Quote
  16. Actually Sefy, your template is what causes the green bar. Sorry to tell you. But yes..making a 352x240 MPEG2..yes..its your bad buddy..

This is the first I've heard of Sefy writing a codec.

The green bar is a PLAYBACK effect only. And it only happened to me when I used PowerDVD. There are no green bars since I blitzed PowerDVD in favor of WinDVD and its codecs.

If the green bar was encoded onto the video, you'd also see it on your television. PowerDVD doesnt like MPEG2 video that isnt *x480 or *x576, plain and simple. WinDVD wont even play MPEG2 video that isnt full resolution. However, the WinDVD codecs will allow you to play 352x240/288 MPEG2 video in Windows Media Player 6.4.

    End of story!

  18. Ummmm...no..it could possibly be thats the situation for you..but umm..Id have to say that basically, its because the resolution he uses..so in terms..the green bar on people's playback IS caused by his template. Now THAT..is the END OF STORY..lol..smartass..

  20. Well, for start, I never forced anyone to use the Templates
Secondly, MPEG is just an encoding, it isn't specific to any resolution, oh and by the way, I use only PowerDVD (dislike WinDVD) and I don't have any green bar
Thirdly, have you tried uninstalling all MPEG2 related codecs and just installing one of them to see if the problem is fixed ?

  21. All that is on my computer is PowerDVD *in terms of MPEG2*..and there is a green bar..Im not saying you forced people to use it..but dont tell them its not from your procedure..all other videos have no green bar..only yours..so its not totally true that your template is not the reason for it..it partakes..OK PEOPLE ITS NOT 100% his template causing it..JUST A FRACTIOn..there..better?

  22. A Template is just a template, it does not encode, it simply does is pre-set certain settings, so the Template cannot cause the green bar, it is simply a misinterpretation of the Playback Codec, cause if it was as you say the cause of the Template, it would happen on EVERY computer, using ANY playback codec, fact is, it does not happen, only in some occasions, with some versions, i've got v3.0628 of PowerDVD, which fixes alot of bugs in the Video and Audio decoding, and I don't have the Green Bar.

  23. OK, OK, did some more looking around and it is the interlaced thing i was talking about, u cant interlace half-sized video (by 240/28 its really just how picky ur codec is but the green bar is not encoded.

    SlicknPick:
Try getting help in the future ... keep tossing the "smartass" label around. As for Sefy's template, try not using it. Set your own settings. Then come back and explain how your template is crap because you get a green bar.

  25. just one question. Are you sure there is no green bar on your tv or is your tv overscanning so you don't see the green bar?

I assume this means that it simply isn't interpreted, and doesn't appear. When I did my software tests (ATI Player, PowerDVD, MediaPlayer), PowerDVD showed it, but ATI Player didn't. It really is a software interpretation.

I've been working with computers since the first personal computer ever came out..If I feel, in my opinion, that his template cause the green bar..theres kinda no way you can tell me Im wrong..As far as ever using it more than once? I wouldnt use that shit..you got me started with the name calling. Dont think you know more than you lead on. Sefy..a certified computer technician??!! LMFAO

  28. SlicknPick, i don't know why you got a hardon for Sefy, but you need to take a step back and chill. Your acting very childishly.
Personally i'm not taking any heed to your speculation due to the manner in which your expressing your opinion.
If you really want to make a point and a possibly help others, if Sefy's templates are causing the problem. Why don't you do some tests with the templates and present your results in a more factual mannner.
