  3. Have you tried opening the file in virtualdub and frameserving to TMPG from it? Chances are the video uses the xvid codec and you will need to download and install it before virtualdub will recognize it. Try using vd and see what happens. If you can load it into vd TMPG will recognize the vdr file created by vd and you can encode the film. Be advised that you will probably have to extract the audio file into a wave file and use that as your audio source. Use a later version of vd such as 1.4.13. If there is a problem with the audio it will rewrite the header and let you know what steps to take to keep the audio in sync with the video. You may have to encode the film at a constant bitrate.

  4. If you get an error message when opening like file unsupported or can not open or is not supported or you get an empty(black) video preview window or the video look wierd in the video preview window like green or purple or pink

Try first to change the codec reader settings in TMPGEnc under Option->Environmental settings->VFAPI plug-in and right click on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and increase the priority to 1 or 2 and try open the video.

If that does not help be sure that you have installed DivX or XviD or MPG2 or DV Codecs and also try with the Nimo Codec Pack.
