  1. I'm encoding my first XVCD and it's giving me an estimate of about 6 hours? Is this right?? Shouldn't it take less time than this, especially since it's a 20 minute long clip?

Considering you are using a 450mhz processor and encoding is very processor dependent it seems resonable. Somebody may be able to give you a better answer if you tell us the specifics of the original file, in particular resolution and codecs used, and the settings you are using for encoding and the software used. In the later case (if you are using TMPGenc) then final resolution, bitrate, rate control mode and motion search precision would be helpfull parameters.

  4. Oh ok good I was just wondering if I had changed a setting that caused a longer encoding time. It makes sense, my computer is damn old as far as technology goes. I knew something wasn't right, because people wouldn't be doing this very often if this was the fastest you could encode these things, not to mention you have to output them to an .mpg afterwards which takes about the same time, at least I'm assuming you have to do that, lol. If this one works out ok I think I'll stick to watching the files on the comp. until I buy a new one lol.

  5. When I first got into video editing I had an AMD K6-2 500Mhz machine. It took me ~18hrs to encode a 90min DivX file to SeVCD (Sefy's old template) in TMPGenc.

Then I got a Tbird 1.2Ghz and CCE it it took me ~95min to encode the same file. Now I have an AMD 2200XP+ and it takes about 75min

It's pretty much all CPU dependant.

  7. I've got realtime encoding on my Athlon XP2000+, but mostly because it's in
the background and I keep using my PC, so it slows it down
