I am buying my first HDV video camera and I'm thinking of getting a used one. Can anyone here shed any light on the average life span of a camcorder (like for example the Canon XL-H1, the used price is about 3600 on Amazon), and what is the most likely part to brake down first. Is repairing an option? Any thoughts would be helpful.

Camcorders usually last one week after the warranty expires
Honestly, they're used cameras and a crapshoot
You'll probably be fine with lightly used and well kept

Very nice looking camcorder, but I'd personally never buy a used.
I believe this camcorder is from around 2003, so you don't know for certain how much use and abuse it has had - probably a lot.

Edit: It looks like there is an updated model...
