  1. I almost hate to post this here, but since i have spent sometime on this forum searching for a reliable dvd9 to dvd5 conversion, i thought i would share what i have found. With a lot of the tools out there, sync or how long it takes have been the issues. I donated $ to 42 cause i think it is a great program, however, i think that its strengths are svcd, vcd, divx....the dvd9 to dvd5 part has not worked well for me....i am NOT bagging the program, i think it is amazing and will contiune to suppport it. i know there next version is suppose to do dvd9 to dvd5 better...So, as much as i hate to say it, i have found a GREAT program. Only problem for a lot of people here is that it is for the PC. Now i happen to be one of those people that does not get caught up in the Mac vs PC war. I am a computer junky and i use several operating systems.

Anyway, the program is called DVD2ONE and can be found at

    http://dvd2one.com

it is around $50 bucs but from the 7 dvd's that i have done so far, it is more than worth it. the thing about this program is the speed. i am not a programmer so i have no idea how it does it.

Basically you just rip the program with whatever you like. i use DvD Backup for the Mac. i rip the entire movie. I am left with a VIDEO_TS folder. i then copy this folder over to my PC...have not tried VPC..

then this simple little program just has you choose your source folder and your output folder. after hitting next you are asked to choose a title, the main movie is always the longest one, so easy to figure out, then you are asked to pick an audio and a sub, after that it just starts...

and this is the part that i am most impressed with....after about 20 minutes you are left with a VIDEO_TS folder that is 4.3GB and that plays perfectly.

I just move this folder back to my Mac, drop in TOAST and burn.

I have done about 7 movies this way, all perfect. I will continue to use it and post any problems if they come up.

For those of you that do not have access to a PC, i am sorry if it feels like i am rubbing this in the face of the MAC community, i am certainly not. I have just wanted a good and easy dvd9 to dvd5 solution for so long i really didn't care which platform it was on.....

Hope this helps anyone out there that is looking for a way to do this.....

  2. two questions, one how long does it take on your pc? Cuz i'm wondering if it's even worth attempting on vpc. Two, does this thing hold the chapter markers and everything? It says it can rip menu's, etc, an exact disk copy, you don't use this program to rip though do you? Just curios, cuz i know that would take 100 days on VPC but if you had a pc wondered why you didn't rip on it. .......maybe no DVD drive?

  3. it takes 20 minutes on my pIII 1.26Ghz box. Yes, it holds chapter markers as well and one subtitile. That is how i verified that everything was in sync, i skipped forwared to the end of the movie chapter by chapter.

yes, no dvd-rom on the pc that i have, so i just use my mac to rip the dvd and copy the folder over.....a 5-7gb folder usually takes about 15 to 17 minutes to copy over on my LAN...

i do have VPC but have not tried it yet....i might, but i suspect that it will take longer than the current way i have been doing it....

  4. I too have been using the same method for some time. It works great on a PC but not on VPC. I don't know the exact reason but itseems to look for some hardware and when it can't see it, it just won't launch. As you say, the speed is blinding. It's a mistery how this little app can transcode a whole DVD in 20 min.

  5. I tried to use it in vpc w/ win 98 but it crashes before it starts. I hope someone figures out how to use it cuz I would love to try it and see how fast it is on a mac.
