  1. Alright ladies and gentlemen, 24 hours after I started ripping with 42, I have the results. Well, actually just short of 24 hours, BUT that's considerably good considering it too 24 hours before to make a file 1/3 the size of the finished product this time. So yes, I in fact have a 4G mpv file that can be imported into DVDSP (dunno what the hell i was looking at before) and I ripped the .ac3 stream with OSeX. The audio synchs up perfectly and remains that way through the whole movie. I set markers in DVDSP so i could check from beginning to end. The quality is spectacular. The ONLY thing I can say is... and this is just because of waiting... the end product is a HAIR too big to fit on a DVD, but thats my problem since I went a bit bigger on the bitrate than i should have The mpv and .ac3 file add up to 4.3 exactly, 4,666,234 or something like that on disk, BUT i guess when DVDSP authors it, it has to add something somewhere so the size ended up being a bit bigger than the 4.7 gigs. In ANY case... this is the only DVD I've tried, I'll prolly try another one as soon as I redo this one BUT, I'm happy to say that the program ran as expected on this trial. Good job.

  2. We try man..we try. I'm happy to hear it

I think we are gonna piss you off in 1.5, tho..lol

DVD - DVD-R, Disk Image or Burn from 42...you choose when its done.

Sorry, be we got a buttload of "Can we please not have to figure out what to do with these damned files" requests...

So we'll be taking care of it.

And no, I don't think there will be "Power User" option for this...folks want an end-to-end solution.

ffmpegX handles the power user space well enough anyway

  3. You know what, that's a way kewl option IF the dvd image is already authored with a VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folder and all the appropriate vob files. OR if it doesn't at least make it contain something usable in DVDSP, like the m2v or mpv or whatever format it is... so that I can moun the disk image and pull what I need out of it to author it into a watchable DVD. I think it'd help if the whole "dvd image" is explained a bit more. Either way, I'm sure I can live with whatever changes you make.

Of course It wouldn't be a DVD otherwise. We've tested, burned, poped in DVD players and have had a third party give it a run was well (NO..NOT full outside beta yet, heheh...next week...)

gotcha covered Ok I dunno about the DVDSP thing, cus I don't have that But if DVDSP can work with whats on a really-for-real mpeg2/ac3 DVD, then it should be ok...cus thats what we're makin'

Does this explain it, or do you need more info. One of our kind benefactors who donates TONS of time and stuf "behind the scenes" works at a PR firm (and its trying to wrangle me, lol) and I believe they author DVDs.

I'll have him check our work and get back to you, OK?

  5. As Mr. Burns would say "Excellent work KaiCherry"

I used it for the first time yesterday and it worked like a dream. But I did not realize that I had to rip the audio out too. and now I don't have access to the original. oh well its a learning curve. But I am very excited about end-to-end solution, exspecially if it determins the highest bitrate to fit a DVD-r. Can't count how many times I have screwed that up.

Keep up the good work and feel free to use me as a beta tester.

  6. That was enough information for me Kai and may I say w00h00! That's all I needed to know. If the dvd image contains the video_ts and audio_ts folders with the vobs, ifos, etc... i wont even need DVDSP to author unless i want to strip it out and add chapters *shrugs* nice work Kai.

  8. DVD -> DVD encoding seems to be broken.

I can't seem to set custom bit rate. I select "DVD" from the list, drag one to the window, select "4000" from the custom bit rate and the sample mpeg2 files are playing at 391.1K/sec. Later I then type "8000" for the rate and then the resultant mpeg STILL plays back at 391K/sec.... Is that feature broken??

I tried different custom rates and 42 seems to ignore them.

Okay, then I just select "DVD" and try to let 42 do the rest. It seems not to work... the resultant mpeg2 plays at too low a data rate (390K/sec) and the file including the audio is 2.5g instead of 4.x gig...

    This may be a bug...

    Best,

  9. Did you remember to move the VBR down to something like 3 or 4? I know it made a big difference moving it from 10 to 3. Bigger file, better looking movie period. I dunno, mine works like a charm.

5-6 should really suffice, people Just set the data rate higher.

You risk not fitting on a dvd-r with long movies if you don't give the vbr any room to "play" in.
