  1. How does a vcd work on a vcd/dvd compatible player?

Do you just download your files on your cd and it should play onto a compatible player??

When a vcd is playing through your tv via a vcd/dvd player, can you tape from the vcd that goes through your tv onto a video tape??

No. Read the What Is and How To's!

Yes. There's no MacroVision or other nasty stuff on a VCD.

If you already have a VCD, and your player handles VCD, you don't have to do anything besides putting the VCD in your player.
If you have a VCD compliant mpeg file, you have to author it to VCD using VCDEasy and then burn, again using VCDEasy or Nero.
If it's not a compliant mpeg, or a video file of some other format, it has to be encoded as a VCD compliant mpeg using TMPGEnc (or other encoder), then authored and burned (see above).

All this has been described a zillion times in the past (Use Forum Search), and is covered in almost as many HOW TOs here at this site.
