  1. Hi all
I am confused but I will try to make my confusion clear. I want to make a VCD or SVCD with subtitles (permanent or not, I do not care).

The movie clip is DivX with AC3 Sound and subtitles are in .srt format (plain text).

VitualDub will not play sound correctly, so I saved the sound and converted it with Nero Wav editor. Then I use TmpGenc to produce the mpg (or MPG2) file, so fare everything workes fine. BUT no subtitles, because VirtualDub does not play the sound correctly so I cannot frameserve to TemGenc, Or can I? (first confusing/question). So my conclusion is that I cannot make permanent subtitles in this case.

I the made a MPG2 file in the hope that I could make the subtitles switch able. My investigation tells me to use WinSubMux and I understand that I Need a special format that requires all the subs in bmp files, but Can I make those from my srt file ? (second question). And what if the subs are not synced properly (third question).

Actually I would prefer to frameserve if there is a way to do it with AC3 sound.

Hope this is not to confusing to understand. Any help would be appreciated.

you can try WinSubMux (in the "Tools" section)- it takes an MPG stream and uses a *.SUB (subtitle file). -it's pretty quick- about the same length of time it takes to re-mux.
Go here- http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/software.htm and scroll down to "Subtitles" - you can probably find what you need there to convert the subtitle file from .SRT to .SUB
I think it only works with MPEG2 (CVD/SVCD) files, and I'm not sure if they are permanent.
    You can't fool me, I'm a moron!

  3. It worked !

I converted the sub file to ssa and used MaestroSBT to produces the SUB file and all the BMP fiel as well, the used WinSubMux, no problems at al excetp that I did find out that my stand alone does not plays switchable subs in VCD and SVCD. But I learned something anyway, and by the way I did found a solution - I had the understanding that frameserving served both pics and sound, but it does not have to be that way I can still choose an wav file in Tmpgenc and only have the pics served by virtualDub som I can actually do permannant Subs even thoug the sound is in AC3.

  4. Hello,
I hope you can help me. I've read your topic and I have the same problem. I've got a Divx with Ac3 sound. And I want to add permanent subtitles. The sound isn't the problem, at least I think. But frameserving to TMPGenc gives trouble. I constantly get the message: could not open movie.vdr or file unsupported. Do you have any suggestion how to solve this?

Is your DirestShow priority set properly?

  6. I've tried to give it a higher priority, but it still won't work.
