  2. Hmmm, brand new is still overpriced, but all those price cuts on the 1.5-1.8 speeds make the P4s look more competitive.

  3. Yeah, intel is still a little on the expensive side

Well I saw a PC with a 2 Ghz P4 last night on either HSN or QVC when flipping through the channels.

The only other price I have seen is a local buisness selling a 1.3 Ghz P4 with a ECS P4ITA motherboard for $330

  6. Intel also sliced the prices for them and all their other chips.

  9. Man I tell ya! I hope Intel will do a 2.5 or 3.0 ghz soon, or we won't be seeing AMD even bothering to release a 1.5ghz, there is no competition!
AMD 1.2 is as fast as a 2.0ghz on most cases and even beats it at times!!!

  10. I will wait for Palomino 1,5G and Morgan 1,0G with SSE instructions.
One of this processors will be next in my Gigabyte 7DXR mainboard.
AMD FPU plus SSE instructions will be very impressive!!!

    good job, intel..

    wow, it's actually catching up!

  13. Video Encoding is faster on P4 compared to Athlon though
    Quote Quote
  14. It is not fact, that Pentium4 is beter for encoding that AMD ATHLON4 (or AtlonMP, or Polomino, or Morgan)!

If anyone know any encoding tests with this processors please paste a link!

  15. Tom's Hardware newer CPU reviews usually do a FlaskMPEG --> DivX test now. You can have a look there: http://www.tomshardware.com

The P4 doesn't shine in too many areas but it does for this. Remember, the P4 stills has SSE2. The Athlon4 and Morgan only do SSE.

  16. Tom's hardware just had an interesting article on the 2 GHz P4's. They're not too bad, though expensive. Also, it mentioned that AMD might be reintroducing the PR rating system... If it does, my respect for AMD is going to drop fast...

    Comments?

  17. For those interesting in DivX, here's a comparison that shows how the P4 (esp. the 2GHz) stomps over the Athlon.

  18. Hey Vitualis, where does it mention the PR thing. I had a look but couldnt find it

  19. i couldn't find it either,...

The thing that i still can't really get over is, they're comparing an expensive 2Ghz processor with a cheap 1.4 Ghz processor... it's wierd to be surprised about a 2ghz beating a 1.4Ghz. I mean, if they were to compare them equally, (two 2Ghz chips compared) who'd win and who'd be better?..
    i don't know, i just woke up and i'm just blabbing...heh

You can't believe specs because everybody's crap is differnt it only depends on what you us ewith the processor look at this article that shows a 1.68p4 get stomped by a 1.33 http://www.vr-zone.com/reviews/TH7RAID/page7.htm so far amd per clock range is whopping the shit out of intel and even if it wasn't an it was just close it's still price to performance. But if a 1.33 can whop a p4 1.68 in tmpge than that is who i go with, I mean who really uses that shitty flaskmpeg other thatn to frame serv? This is an age old argument that will go on and on. If most people really look at it you wouild be a fool to wast your money on an intel product see that you dont really gain that much, I live on a budget and I guess im not as well off as you intel folks but the extra 100 to 200 dollars i save on my processor and mobo i will use in better places like memory or ciggarettes.

  23. There's no need to get so emotional about it. No one is asking YOU to buy a P4!

I don't think that anybody believes that a P4 is better "value" than an Athlon. Of course the Athlon gives more "bang for your buck". This is undisputed.

This was just an interest thread on the new 2GHz P4.

All the propaganda and vested interests aside, I think that a P4 system is for now the fastest (and available! -- putative future CPUs don't count) single CPU, home PC available (read the general 2GHz P4 review at Tom's Hardware and have a look at ALL the comparisons)

P4 (2GHz) is probably bether than Athlon 1.4 GHz, but the difference in the price is ....................let's say: unbelievable.

Intel still sells more cpus than AMD, but Athlon is better choice at the moment. Especially when you have a good CPU cooler .
