I'm looking at getting a good laptop in the $600 range, wondering if there are any that are particularly well suited to capping and TV out, as well as general video work? Or should I just get good ports and an external capture card? I have a DVD writer, so may want to get an external box, but I assume most come with USB 2 now anyway. Good inbuilt video for the odd game would also be nice. Basically want to do it all and take it with me instead of upgrading my desktop.
Thanks,
Alan

Not for $600 you wont find a laptop that is capable of capturing much less hard drives that would be able to sustain capture rate. Im not trying to dump on you but dude, if you want something thats gonna be for capturing youre gonna pay more for a laptop than you would for a totally decked out desktop system.
Youre much better off investing that $600 in upgrades than in a laptop. I have one of the new Sony P4 laptops with built in dvdwriter and a gig of ram and i still get dropped frames every once in while on a 60gb hard drive and I paid $3000 for mine. -
I've looked at a bunch o'laptops.....and I'll assume your not talking about new ones......cause if you find one that fits those specs around $600.00 ...order me one also.
On older ones certain years of Toshiba and NEC (not even sure they sell NEC anymore) came with standard with a Video Out Jack (RCA type). I have not seen many with video in...except Sony and Mac ...The Sony's are always expensive and the MAC still dosn't use "regular PC" type programs or add ons...
I'm hoping someone will chime in with a good answer for this. -

Around 800-900 and then u have to put in your own CPU, HD, and MEM, works with 333 DDR, any P4 CPU and has overclocking. Just a thought
