have ripped a DVD that is just over 4 hours and about 8GB.

I used CladDVD XP to frameserve for me so I can convert with TMPGEnc.

The trouble is the Wav file it made was about 2.8 GB which from what I have been told, is over the limit of 2GB windows can handle. If I try to add it to TMPGEnc I don't get the audio!
I did cut a part of the Wav file and have managed to convert the first 1hr 15 mins ok.

I did get Clad to cut the film into 1GB vobs but it too big for my computer and it locks up!

I need to be able to convert the film in 3 parts as I don't have a very fast computer ( Duron 800/ 256MB) and it saves me having to cut it later.

What can I do to fix this? Tried DVDx but crap quality. I need Mpeg files I can use with VCDEasy as I like chapters.

    All help appreciated

If your frameserving with DVD2AVI you could choose to demux audio into ac3 audio file. It will be about 800MB's for a four hour movie. There are programs that will convert the ac3 into mp2/SVCD format. Some versions of Tmpeg(2.54 and earlier)will convert ac3 to mp2.

TMPGEnc wont except an AC3 or Mp2 file as I tried. I am using TMPGEnc 2.5 which is the only full Mpeg2 version I have.

I think I have it sorted now as I used DVD2AVI to just do a few vobs at a time which keeps the wav file size down. I like to convert under 80 min parts at a time anyway so its ok

    Thanks for your reply

Just another quick suggestion... when ripping you could have chosen to rip a few chapters at a time... ie if it's 21 chapters and you want to split across 3 VCD's then take the total movie time, divide by 3, and try and figure out which combination of chapters will give you a good fit... ie 1-6 then rip 7-15 into another directory, then rip the rest into another one...

Then run DVD2AVI to frame serve each of the 3 sections creating 3 D2V files, and 3 WAV files. Then encode each grouping seperately with TMPGENC...

I would think that this would work better than using selected VOB's in DVD2AVI, because I believe that chapter boudries may cross two VOB files causing you to break right in the middle of a scene... if you do it my way your break would be in tune to the end of a chapter...

I did get it sorted by doing 3 vobs with DVD2AVI at a time, which is about what you said.
