  1. First a bitch, why doesn't this drive come in a scsi version?

Now that that is out of my system, looking for external enclosure.

My Asus p4s333 only has usb 1.1 ports. Was told that a usb 2.0 enclosure will work on 1.1 ports, but it will be too slow for the dvd burner. Is that correct.

The only other solutions are adding a usb 2.0 or firewire card (which I would hate to do as I don't have any extra pci slots, and I have all these unused usb ports on the pc already.

Has anybody tried the scsi converters that plug onto the ports of ide devices?

My last alternative is to take my ide 1 master hard drive, put it as a slave on ide 0 , and put the burner on ide1 master. (worried about performance hit with 2 drives on one port)

A 1x DVD burner is approximatley the same speed as an 8X CD burner. Since you can only burn at 6x on USB 1.1, you can't burn at DVD 1x. Buy a USB 2.0 card, they are real cheap for 4-6 ports($30 US).
