Lavasoft Ad-aware, searches for known spyware in files, registry, and memory. If you are worried about deleting something important, you can use the "Back Up" feature on the main page. However, I've always deleted everything that they suggest. I've never had any problems.

The windows files that you may fear are being erased may be spyware in your "Windows Registry" which are not important.

If you still worry, a regular back-up is always a good idea. Something, I need to do much more often myself.
