  1. GOOD MORNING!
I am interested in creating a self contained executable video file with the nice quality comparable to SVCD. The high res. is a necessity. My intentions are that i could give a CD to anyone with a computer, and not need to worry about whether they have the necessary codecs or player. Is this possible? I found that Flash 5 would take the video and play it and 'export' it as a .exe file. But the quality was terrible. Any responses are greatly appreciated..

It's not a self-contained EXE, but puts the software on the CD with an 'autorun' file.

This might be acceptable to you.

make a high bit rate good quality mpeg 1 file or qt file and create a autoplay menu in the root of the cd ....

you can use this freeware to make the cd autorun

    http://www.soft14.com/

or you can do it yourself pretty easy also ..

macs are autorun automatic - though many mac 'ies turn this off ...

mpeg1 will play on all pc's and macs

  4. That makes all of the sense in the world. but... quality is lost with mpeg1 files.. i was hoping for mpeg2.
Letme explain why that is so important:
'Work' needs to be able to video a builing before a tenant moves in and afterwards. after they move out, at times there is damage. If i should need to send this video file out (on a disk).. The damage needs to be very apparent. Everything i have done in an mpeg2 has been acceptable, unfortunaly, mpeg1 'just didnt cut it' , as my boss explained. Is there a way to register the codec to make it play mpeg2?

mpeg1 can look VERY VERY good ... maybe you were using really low bit rate or resolution or something ....

    no on the mpeg2 question

as i mentioned you can do this in QT also or if its windows pc only - with windows media file (very good quality, better than mpeg1 w/ same bitrate )
