    Good day,
Anyone know if there is a firmware update for the pioneer DVR-105. If you know there is where can I get it. Cendyne nor Pioneer don't seem to list one for the 105. They only are listing for the A-04/104. I have read post that there is a 2.1.*** available but can't seem to find where. Thanks

  3. Any time. BTW, the update seems to allow the burner to work better with less costly media, at least so far.

  4. thanx for the link.

So what benefits does it bring? what kind of new cheap media does the updated firmware support?

  5. Better reading and burning for DVD and CD media. Will not allow 2x burning to 1x media.

    Yes,

Actual 2x Riteks will burn at 2x. I had 1 Ritek 2x that only burned at 1x, and discovered that the burning software somehow read the disk as a Princo 1x, and I had previously burned a Princo 1 x, so somehow that info was still in the drive. I have been using Nero's CD speed now before I burn a 2 x, so it gets the info correct. Might be a bug in Record Now Max, at that's the only program that has ever done this.

  10. My Ritek 2x DVD-R's show up in Nero CD-Speed as:

    Manufacturer : TDK
    Code : TDKG02000000
    Disc Type : DVD-R
    Usage : General
    Recording Layer : -
    Recording Speed : 1 X - 2 X
    Capacity : 4.38 GB
    4706076672 Bytes
    Additional Capacity : -
    Overburn Capacity : -

While my Ritek 1x only DVD-R's show up as

    Manufacturer : RITEKG03
    Code : -
    Disc Type : DVD-R
    Usage : General
    Recording Layer : -
    Recording Speed : 1 X
    Capacity : 4.38 GB
    4706076672 Bytes
    Additional Capacity : -
    Overburn Capacity : -

It sounds like you have the 1x disks that can be burned at 2x only with the Pioneer 104-A04 and firmware 1.31 or the Sony DRU-500A with firmware 1.0f. These are not actual 1x disks, so they will only burn at 1x in most drives and won't burn at 2x with the DVR-105.

It would seem that my actual 2x certified Riteks are not made by Ritek at all, or perhaps I was not sent the Riteks that I ordered, as these appear to be at least made by TDK, but perhaps just branded as a Ritek. They have white tops btw, where the 1x Riteks I have are silver on the top.

  11. Barnabas,

this is weird. my "supposed 2x" Ritek is G03. the top is gold and the bottom is deep purple. these words are printed on the top side around the edge.

    "DVD-R for Video & Data 2X 120min/4.76GB"

but the disc info shows G03, which we all know does not work with 105 at 2x.

i guess the "2x" labelling is only for the 104 with the patched firmware.

  12. Interesting,

My 1x Riteks are also a deep purple on the bottom, where the certified 2x disks I have are light purple, about the same as the Princo's bottom color.

I am not too sure burning a 1x at 2x is a good idea anyways, as one of the major problems cd-r makers ran in to as burner speeds increased was cracking.

I am testing various brands of DVD-R media, and will post the results as I try each brand.

  13. Hello Guys

I've just bought a pioneer A05. I am in 1.0 Firmware.I could make a copy very easely with dvdxcopy and plays well on my new pioneer 350 standalone player. Same things with DVD-RW. I used the two media of the A05 package. After that i bought a pack of 5 IMATION DVD-R, I've copied 3 DVD without any error signaled on the PC. And each time, i have the problem : it plays about 30 minutes and after start to freeze and block.
The worst is in the pc le DVD don't play even on the artec pc dvd.
So a had a call to Pioneer France who told me to upgrade my Pioneer to . But on the forums, we can see some of us who did it, and know have a lot of problem to burn. Should I Upgrade or should i must pay for TDK, VERBATIM, SONY, PIONEER medias.

Can someone tell me it's own experience.

    Thanks in advance.

  14. Upgrade your firmware. They have firmware upgrades for a reason, usually bugs that need to get fixed.

    I've got a 105 with 1.21 firmware

    RITEKG02 burn at 1X on A05 but 2X with my A04 1.33
    RITEKG04 burn 4X on A05
    TDK TDKG02000000 burn at 1X & 2X

good burner for speed but shame about RITEK 2X discs only burning at 1X but I'm sure there will be an upgrade firmware soon

  16. Ah you guys think you have problems with you 105(05). I bought a sony viao tower last month and the computer says i have a 104 and will only let me burn at most 2x. when i took the top off and looked at the top of the dvdburner it's actually a 105. When i checked the firmware that the viao is running the dvdr at it says firmware 4.0.?

I have both Pioneer and Cendyne and have left both at their current 1.00 FW revisions. The reason I have done this is for a couple of reasons. The firmware revision locks the drive so that you cannot downgrade FW. Many folks state so far that the FW revisions took more away than was given. I have no issues with both drives to date. Read comments on Pioneer FW from different users here:

    http://forum.firmware-flash.com/index.php

I would personally wait for another FW revision or an "update"/"patch" to current revision.

  18. We should stick this topic on Pioneer (Cendyne) DVR-105 firmware!

    --------------------
It a pain to do a search for firmware info.

  19. aw crap... i just got caught in the same trap... i bought Ritek generics from supermediastore.com because of this line- "Pioneer Announced the compatibility of Pioneer DVR-105, DVR-A05 with Ritek Generic DVD-R media"... http://supermediastore.com/47dvdisgenpu1.html... i am annoyed but i will keep my fingers crossed for a firmware update that will resolve the issue...

  20. I would buy only TRUE 2x media. No point in paying more $ to find you burn at 1x anyways.

  22. hcmiller,

The media you bought is NOT true 2x media. It even states "2X Burning with pioneer dvr-104 Firmware v1.31," meaning NOT TRUE 2x media. I woould never want to burn a 1x disk at 2x as you may find disk cracking as a result.
