That's quite stupid, I've never upgraded firmware for none PC related items and it's always on the website.
I had a quick look at the site and there are no firmware updates for mentioned product.
Also could you help me please, I don't know if you saw my recent topic but I'm looking to upgrade my DVR's HDD just like how you did. The old HDD was it a Maxtor Quick view 3.5 inch IDE HDD? Were you just able to replcae the HDD? As in straight swap or did you need software, where did you get it?

    Sorry about my english

Old disk was seagate 3,5 160GB(baracuda), a new is seagate 500GB(baracuda 7200 rpm, 8mb cache)(probably max size in this technology - ATA, now it maybe difficult to get this ata NEW hard drive, You can buy a maxtor or seagate, WD(western digital) - i don't like this company.

To upgrade the HDD You must have a pionner dvd service disc, service remote(i use a emulator on pda with IR port).

Service disc(i downloaded from internet, if You want it i can put on the www), ir emulator(i can put too and profile to emulator with ir pionner service codes) - write to me on the priv.
