  1. I downloaded a movie in .avi and I want it to be in Divx...I have a Reality Player for my PS2 that will play DIVX movies and so I thought (never done this before obviously) that .avi and DIVX were the same. I just burned it with Nero and of course it didn't work. WhenI tried on Real Player it said I needed MP43 decompressor??? All I want is to convert from .avi to DIVX or I could go VCD if that is easier (I'm a middle aged mom and want to do the easiest one). Thanks for your help

Okay, Momma, it is like this. You are partially right when you say .avi and DivX are the same. It would be like saying, "my Honda is a car". Of course all cars are not Hondas, and all .avi files are not DivX.

So what you need is a program that will convert your .avi files whatever format they are in into .avi DivX, if they are not already.

They way I suggest you do this is to find a program in the Tools section on this site called Virtual Dub. Once you install it, select File-->File Information. This will tell what kind of video your movie is.

If it is not DivX, you will need to download the Nimo Codecs (also in the Tools section) because you may not have the codecs you need to convert this movie to DivX. Once you have them installed, and the video loaded into Virtual Dub, simply select the DivX as your codec, save as whatever name you want your movie to have, then save it. Guide here.

The VCD route, if you want to go that way, is to load the movie into a program call TMPGEnc (Tools section, of course). You load your movie directly into it, use the Wizard to make your VCD format video, and you are done. Guide here.
    Hello.
