I am trying to convert an XviD AVI movie into a VCD using TMPGEnc. But, the problem I am having is that when it is about 2-3 seconds from finishing, the entire program simply quits leaving the file incomplete. I have tried downloading new fresh copies of the program, but no luck.
Does anyone know how I can fix this?![]()

Also, it seems to only do it when I raise the priority on the DirectShow Plug-In in the Environmental Settings area?
Does anybody know what I can do? I'm stuck. -
Are you using a TMPGEnc supplied template? If not, try that. When you say the program quits, do you mean it shutsdown, finishes encoding, reports an error, or what? I had trouble with TMPGEnc of all versions of over 2.53 and illegal operation errors.

Yes, I am using a standard VCD NTSCFilm template.
When it quits, the entire TMPGEnc program completely quits and says nothing. It just quits . . . -
Hi,
I have the same problem. In fact if I use toolame for audio encoding the software crashes before it starts video encoding but if I use TMPGEnc's own audio encoding, the software crashes just before the whole (99%)encoding process finishes.
This problem appeared few days ago and before that I have encoded hundreds of AVIs to MPGs without any problems. I have tried both 2.59 and 2.510 versions.
And there's no error message ... weird.

BTW. I have XP. And at the same time I got another problem ... if I have Explorer open in the background when encoding the Explorer gives an error and crashes ... it says something about "...Visual Basic..." -
I have decided how to fix my problem. I am going to encode the video and let it crash, then take the 99% that it does encode. Then I will encode the last minute or so by modifying the source of the video under the settings area. Luckily, the last minute encoded successfully, so I will combine the large piece and the new short piece using the MPEG Tools. This will create the entire video in one piece. Hope it works when I'm done!!!

Here's what I do: I encode EVERY Xvid with Panasonic Mpeg encoder ( and don't forget to use ffdshow! ) , it's a bit slower than Tmpgenc; but for me it ALWAYS work this way. For Divx i use Tmpgenc. Try it.

I have tried Panasonic encoder but I didn't like the quality as much as with TMPGEnc. I don't think that problem is complicated since it has work for many years. I have tried to think what could I have installed which is causing the problem but nothing comes to my mind.
It have something to do with audio decoders because the problem appears in two different ways.
1) When using Toolame: Just before it starts encoding the video with TMPGEnc crashes (without any notification)
2) TMPGEnc audio encoder: At the moment when everything should be ready TMPGEnc disappears just like above
Goodluck to djholt trying to get those pieces together -
Hi!
Instead of changing the priority settings in TMPGEnc you
can change the FourCC of the avi to DivX.

I have the same problem, but in some cases TMPGenc (both versions 2.59 and 2.510) reboots my PC. Rest of the times it freezes or it disappears with no log/warning/message. I used TMPGenc in over a thousand (believe me) conversions, with no problem.
This began when I reinstalled my PC, putting XP over 2 HDD on a Promise RAID card, and installed new ATI Video drivers for my Sapphire 7500 AGP Card. I can't remember if I was using 2.56 or 2.59 already.
Installed even MainConcept Mpeg Encoder, worked fine 10-20 times, and last night I found the same blue screen with the "IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" label. Pretty stressing.
I tried all the suggestions of the guys in this board:
- explode Mp3 or whatever Audio stream to uncompressed PCM before encoding with TMPGenc/MainConcept.
-modify priorities of the TMPGenc AVI reader filters, with no success.
- Disable multiprocessor feature of TMPGenc, as I run a 2 CPU machine.
Anyone can give me a hint of where the problem is...?? I thought about a bug in some video encoder sw module, but the same bug in 2 different softwares is kinda impossible.
You can take a look of my PC conf in my profile.
ThanX. -
As for the audio part......... try using Virtualdub or Nandub, Tmpgenc audio editing isn't the best option here.......... D.C.

Thanks to all of you who helped and I am gradually getting closer to finishing this project!!! Hope it works!!!

Just out of curiosity dj...Did you burn the 99% complete mpg to see if it still worked?
I had this happen the other day. 7 hours to encode and got an illegal operation error at 99% but everything was fine after burning and then playing on the DVD player. Was SVCD. -
similar error i get, i loaded an avi, and select trhe audio, the it when to preview bit and was totally green and then exited, its never done this before, and im sure i got all codecs etc
-
No, I never tried it, but I am pretty sure it wouldn't have worked because the VCD MPEG file itself was shorter than it should have been, and also, the end of the movie was gone. Thanks though.

I would like to let everyone know, I have finally completed my VCD, and it works pretty good. You can barely tell the two merges that I had to make, but I am probably the only one who will ever see them. A lot of work went into this particular project, but it was worth it.
I am going to watch my new project on my couch tonight!!! 8)
I would like to thank all of you who helped me out, and good luck to those who are having similar problems!!!
