We're creating a .AVI video that will be sent to various employees out in the field to view on their PC's.

Because we dont' know the exact configuration of each of their media players, is there a way to create the file or the CD so that the proper codec's are included.

We just tested it on a PC here and the version of Media Player we had didn't have the proper codec and wanted to connect to Microsoft for an updated one and it's blocked by our firewall.

Ideas on how to make this video so all can watch it without any problems?

    Thanks

    Hi Touchdown,

Check out VCDEasy (freeware if you get the earlier version) and TMPGEnc (freeware if you're only doing encoding to MPEG1 - VCD's).

VCDEasy is an easy to use front end for producing VideoCD's. It uses TMPGEnc (or one other, but TMPGEnc is considered to be one of the best) to take your AVI and convert it to MPEG (1 = VCD, 2 = SVCD / DVD).

Check out the links in blue at the top left of the page for definitions of VCD (low quality, but can be OK if good AVI), SVCD (better) & DVD (best).

MPEG is a very common format, and so should be OK with pretty much everybody. I don't think you're ever gonna get it to be OK with everyone, just "very nearly everyone".

    Good luck.
There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

    Carpe diem.

If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room.
