  1. I have looked but have been unable to find a guide on ripping from DVD to Divx (or Xvid), and keeping the original 5.1/6.1 sound. Is this even possible?
I have recently setup a 'media' computer to a tv in a spare room, which I have connected to my home network. I'd like to rip my DVD collection, and store them as Divx or Xvid, so that I can watch them on that tv through the network. File size isn't much of an issue (I have nearly 400gb) so I don't mind if the divx movie is over 1gb.
I'm simply looking for the best quality, w/ the actual DTS or Dolby Digital AC3 stream. Thanks in advance for any help!

  3. Thanks for the reply Zodiac. Does anyone know if DTS is an AC3 file? I ripped the dts sound from 'the bourne identity' dvd, but it has a .dts extension. Is there a program I can use that will allow me to have a dts audio stream w/ a divx video codec?

A good avi muxer that supports ac3 and dts is AVIMuxGUI. You can download this utility from www.doom9.org.
