Freeze Frame Effect ???

I would like to edit my DV-AVI and add a freeze frame effect in the middle of an action sequence. I want to stop the motion for 5 seconds and add a caption above my kid's head.

The only way I can think of to do this is;
Capture the clip. Using Ulead VS6 (my editor) split the clip into two parts.
At the split scene, capture a still.
Edit the Still and add the bubble caption.
Open a new project and add Clip1, then the still with a 5 secon duration, then clip2.

Anyone tried this in VS6 or have a better way?
