Every movie I have tried to backup is too big except 1. I have been able to backup my copy of Pandora's Box. Every other movie I've tried is 5 to 5.3 gig when pulling just the movie out.. no extras.
But am I missing something? I've tried to understand how to strip files but no matter what I strip.. I can leave everything or strip everything the end result is the same.. same file size. I have tried leaving just audio and not selecting default language (english) and still get same file size. Some movies have 2 or 3 VOB ID's and some have 15 or more. I can select just 1 VOD ID or all 15 (if it has 15) and end result is same file size.
Will it make a big difference to use 2 channel audio instead of AC3 ?

I think that he's trying to backup a DVD to DVDR. If the stipped fown verison of the movie (just m2v + audio) is still over 4.7GB you have to re-encode the movie to a lower bitrate to get it to fit OR use two DVDR discs.

yes.. doing dvd to dvdr.
i'm reading the guides... just wasting a lot of blanks though
i've gotten a few backups to work but not many. i'm hoping it's in my burner (dvr-105 pioneer). just got done updating firmware.
what i don't understand mostly is why the backups that have worked will play on my old RCA DIVX player but not on my Apex AD600a?
And second, I have a few dvd's that are 4 gigs and under (some kids' movies) and when i try a complete dvd backup with menu's and all all the comes out and works is just the movie. i get a blank screen until i press OK and the movie starts. -
Ok several problems:
1) You can strip out just the movie, audio and subtracks you want. But if that turns out to be more than 4.7GB you HAVE to re-encode the movie at a lower bitrate OR put it on 2 DVD-Rs.
To strip out just the bits you want take a look at:
http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=109346
scroll down to EnemyWithin's post on how to use IFOEdit
2) If you have a DVD-R that will play in some but not all players there are two possible problems. One the standalone just can't play DVD-R discs (check the DVD players list to the left to confirm). Or you burnt the DVD in UDF 1.05 (default in Nero and some other programs) instead of the more common UDF 1.02
Try ripping the backup, then burning in UDF 1.02 and see if that fixes it.
3) For the DVDs that are 4gb and under. How are your trying to 'back them up' you can't just drag and drop the contents from disc A to DVDR (unlike CDR). The best (and easiest) way to do this is with DVD Decryptor. The above link also tells you how to use/do this. Basically:
1) Run DVD Decryptor
2) Choose ISO read mode
3) Rip disc image
4) Choose ISO write mode
5) Burn disc image -
thanx Vejita-sama
i have been doing those procedures... lately i've been following the guide for dummies as listed in the guides section.
i just got blood work to play on my rca player but again it won't play in my Apex NOR will it play in power dvd on the pc.. i hear sound in power dvd but no picture. on the rca it plays fine.. with chapters.. no sync problems.
i used spruce maestro to make an img of the resulting dvd and burned with prassi.
what settings would i use to burn the img in nero ?
i removed the menu1 tab in spruce maestro... is there anytihng else i need to do to get it to play on other machines?
