I am new to encoding and am using Tmpgenc to encode with. My problem is I have a three hour movie thats about seven gigs in size and I am trying to use automatic VBR. I used the calculator and got three thousand kbs, and the final product is larger than the original. Do I use this value as the minimum or maximum setting? Or do you recommend a different rate control mode. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

do a manual 2-pass VBR. Set that value as the average. Set the min around 1200-1500 and the max where ever you want.
