verified 2x wont burn at 2x with any firmware plz help

i have tried every known firmware there is to no avail and still cant burn at 2x

yes they are 2x media as my friend has the same pc burner and discs and his do 2x no problem my drive is a pioneer 104

i have tried burning with prassi, nero, dvddecryptor & record now and get the following error

"image job3 terminated with errors- error-10 sector 816 disc read error, command 2a sense 03asc:73ascq:03"

or power calibration error with nero

without the exact type of media it is hard to say what the problem .. plus it has been noted some burner software are reporting burning speeds in excess of 1x when in fact they are really burning at only 1x

true measurement is to time it ..
