When I capture an Avi in 720x480 in either Windows Movie Maker or Showbiz when I play the clip it play as 1/3 size. If I capture Mpeg2 at 720x480 it plays normal size . I cant figure it out.

If your AVI is using DV codec its because the Microsoft DV DirectShow filter defaults to playing back the file at quarter size (about 320x240).
I believe you can change the default to playback at full size (720x480) in the preferences or properties in Windows Media Player. -
Yes, select best quality in the Mediaplayers settings. The default settings are medium.
