  1. Hi guys,

I just made a DVD-SVCD for my Philips 952. Everything worked fine after following this guide: http://www.vcdhelp.com/svcddvdr.htm
I also followed som other guidelines as to do selectable subs on SVCD which I have done sucessfully with regular SVCD's on the same player. But when doing this DVD-SVCD the subs didn't show up and was not selectable in the player menu. I am sure I did it right as for following the SVCD standard but it just didn't work this way.

Does anyone know if its possible or does the fact that I fool the player into believing its a DVD is playing disable my SVCD subs?

Is there any other way I can make it work?

    regards

    Kris

  3. I just discovered that burning a classic SCVC with subs in Uleads program doesn't work at all so I am inclined to guess that it is the program who isn't fully compliant.
I am going to try the whole process using WinOnCd 6 DVD.Edition and see what comes out of it. WinOnCd works with subtitles.

    Let you all know soon

  4. You can have subs on a DVD and subs on a SVCD. But you can't just 'turn' SVCD subs into DVD subs. They have to be ripped and converted first.

    http://www.doom9.org/subtitle_guides.htm

Has some good guides on the subject.

  5. Hmm, I realize that WinOnCd won't work either since when you load up all the assets and hit "burn". The program starts to de-multiplex and multiplex which will make the subtitles go away.

I still want to do the header hacked DVD-SVCD but in what way can I make "DVD-subtitles" to put in and along the rest of the files. In Ulead I can get an output of all the filework which results in these files and folders:

    AUDIO_TS
    *empty

    VIDEO_TS
    VIDEO_TS.BUP
    VIDEO_TS.IFO
    VIDEO_TS.VOB
    VTS_01_0.BUP
    VTS_01_0.IFO
    VTS_01_1.VOB <---- The first MPEG2
    VTS_01_2.VOB <---- The second MPEG2
    VTS_01_3.VOB <---- The third MPEG2
    VTS_01_4.VOB <---- The fourth MPEG2

I realize it aint as simple as to just drop in "subtitle.vob" but I wish it was. How can I make this easier for myself? I have DVD Maestro but I don't really know how it works.

  6. Here's a Maestro guide:

Maestro is pretty easy to use. As for getting the subs into a usable format that can be a little more tricky. Look at the subtitle guides at doom9.org (see link above).

  7. Can you use the Svcd header trick with DVD Maestro, and does it support Mpeg audio?

  8. Well yes and no I guess. The header trick works as for importing the movies, Maestro scans it and finds it to be ok - but when I try to mount it on the timeline the program crasches. This could just be my computer perhaps but I am inclined to think that this is a common "bug".

As for mpeg audio I think it's ok, but I am going out on a limb here.

Have you been able to rip the subtitles from the SVCD? If not you can not make any dvd with subtitles.
