  1. ive been using tmpgenc for some time now and everythings great. i recently brought some movies over to my gf's place to watch in her apex dvd player and they didnt work. i converted them from avi to mpeg1 and mpeg2. theyve been playing fine on my maganavox mdv-450 without any problems. i also recently learned that my dvd player plays damn near everything under teh sun. anyone know what ive been doing wrong? ive tried some vcds given to me by a friend and they play fine in her apex. am i converting them wrong? thanks for any feedback

Some Apex don't play VCD. You need to look up your girlfriends Apex and see if it's one of them. Look to your left for "DVD Players"
May the force be with you.

  3. im not there now so i dont have her model number. its the small silver $50ish one from walmart. im 100% positive it plays vcd's. like i said it plays the ones i get from a buddy of mine. he gets them from a group online already formatted to vcd. itll play those but not mine discs. my maganavox plays both. i didnt know if i was converting them wrong or what.

  4. Sometimes a slower burn speed can make your vcd's more compatible.
I've come to paint, but I've forgotten my brush.

  5. im still having this problem. even if i use nero to burn the disc and it automatically converts to .mpg, itll still only play in my magnavox. i read somewhere a while back about changing the setting to "tricking" dvd players into thinking it was compliant. is there anything on tmpgenc i can mess with or change to get these movies to play in her apex player? remember her apex DOES play vcd's, just not ones encoded by my tmpgenc. WHY ???????

  6. Try this link for the header trick

    http://www.vcdeasy.org/modules.php?name=_Guides&id=VcdTrick

Basically, you have tmpgenc rewrite the header to say it is a non-standard vcd. This works well for me.

It could be that her player will not play cd-r/w discs. If those VCD's from your friend were pressed then that would explain the difference. you mentions they were from a group. If they are legaly made VCD's then they were most likely pressed and are not on a cd-r/w disc

  8. Good reasoning Treebeard, that COULD be the key. In my experience with Apex players, these machines will almost always play CDr's. There might be a few models that don't, but 99% do.
What you need Adam is her model of Apex. Look it up here and find out what it will and won't support. Do you actually author the VCD or just throw an mpg on a disc? Some players such as your Magnavox will play mpgs without authoring, but some Apex models don't.
If you figure this out, post here and let us know the solution.
