How can I convert E-Books (in PDF format, containing mostly text with some graphics - no audio) to VCD or DVD?

The result must be viewable using a regular VCD or DVD player (and TV set), without requiring a computer. User should be able to read the e-book page by page ("turn" the pages at will by controlling the VCD/DVD player).

I've seen several VCD/DVD authoring options for Photos (convert photo slideshows to VCD/DVD) but I haven't found one for text/e-books.

You will have to take screenshots of every page, crop these to stills of 720 480/576 (ntsc/PAL), then create you disc. If you use VCD then it will be a slide show. If it is a DVD, you could use menu pages to give you the best control. I do not know of any tool that will automate this.

@ permataharahap --- were you by any chance discussing this over at portableapps.com a while back?
No matter. I happen to have a few links, because a while back I was looking to go the other way, image to pdf.

check out this site, it discusses a way to do pdf conversion to jpeg with freeware
    http://www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/how-to-convert-a-pdf-file-to-word-excel-or-jpg-format/
(the "second" way looks easy, but his recommended pdf995 is ad-ware that connects to on-line advertising before starting your project. I used to use it, but chopped of its feet by installing it on a pc with no internet connection, teehee.)

I happen to use a pdf reader *freeware* PDF X-change (check www.docu-track.com )
which can export pages to image files (I use jpeg, but I think it might also do bitmap and tiff). My older version is a bit buggy though, and I can only export one page at a time instead of the entire document. You might want to try a download and see if newer version has improved that. You can also add markups (comments, hightlights, underlining) it is a great app much better than Adobe Acrobat.

I'm not sure if Foxit reader will do image export.

Adobe full payware version probably does, if you want to pay a few hundred bucks.

There are also several payware utilities in the $30 - $50 range that convert pdf to jpeg/image, you could check a trial version to see if it would be worthwhile. check out www.pdftoall.com for some ideas.

However, all the above blather only gets you past having to do screenshots.
As guns1inger notes, you still have to get your images into acceptable size/resolution, and then onto a disk in some format that your standalone player can use. That is when the REAL fun starts!
