I have 2 problems with my pioneer 105 and bulkpaq media
PROBLEM #1 : bulkpaq 1x gen3 (r2) DVD-R (purple top)
I have burnt a couple of those purple top media before without any major issue but the new batch I received from digital promo in the uk just won't burn properly at all.
I am using nero 5.5.9.14 under XP. Most times the burn would finish but the data verify would fail. A couple of times, even the burning would fail around 100%. So far I have tried to burn 6 DVDs from 2 different spindles of this new batch but none worked.
I also tried with Recordnow : same story, the verify just locked at around 60%, the writer stopped spinning.
One noticeable thing is that unlike the ones I used previously (which worked), these have a transparent center ring, not white. However the media ID still shows Princo.
PROBLEM #2 : bulkpaq 2x gen4 DVD-R (green top)
Those burn without any problem however it happened a couple of times that after viewing the dvd for a while (approx 1 hour) on my standalone Pioneer DV535, the picture would get blocky and the dvd would end locking up. The weirdest thing being that if I try again, say the day after, to skip directly to that part which failed the previous day, it will read without a glitch ! But then after one hour or something, blocks again...
So I'm thinking maybe the heat has something to do with it. Even so it is really weird.

Par for the course!
I bet if you put it in your computer dvd, it'll play fine.
I fell into the same trap. Damn cheep media.
Pay a little bit more for your disks & you SHOULD!! be ok. Have a look at the
<----- DVDR Media
section here. -
I bougth a pack of 25 of the bulkpaq gen3(r2 ) and I have 50% of results... I only use it to burn data... I use Nero 5.9.9.17 and I burn about 4 of these, 2 ok! and 2 give me errors in some files in the verification check of Nero.
If you want to use cheap media without problem in this dvdr writer I will tell you to buy the Whitelabel gen3... I burned about 15 of these without problem... or any kind of error... I will never buy another pack of bulkpaq...
Btw: my firmware is 1.00

I am using no name "white" 1x DVD-R. The store told me they where princo. Burn 5 and no coaster so far.
They play fine in my standalone dvd player (JVC)
BTW how can I get info on a blank disk? What software should I used? -
you can use a tool named nero cdspeed
you can find it here :
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/nero_cd_speed.cfm#download
the thing you look for is in menu "Extra" then "Disc Info"
