my pioneer is giving me lots of problems when attempting to play back svcds i have created with toast (mac os x). i am using gnu vcdtoolsx to convert and create a burnable svcd, but when i play all of the svcds i have created they all stutter and pixelate. i am using sony supermas 700mb media. dvds play back flawlessley. any help would be much appreciated. do i need to clean my lens, or is this a burning problem? ive had the player for 3 years, and it has worked great for me.

It's not the DVD player because I own the same model and SVCDs play flawlessly on it. I would look into how you are creating the SVCD. I personally use windows and have no clue about MAC(toast). Sorry I can't help anymore than this. Good luck!

i know im burning the .bin files right, im using missingmediaburner, and im burning at 4x. im gonna try 2x to see if that helps at all. what is the best way to clean my player if i cant figure anything else out?

I think the problem is not on the player but in the way u encode and burn your SVCDs (Pioneer DV525 is also my player and I have no problem with SVCD/XVCD/CVD!).
What's the Maximum bitrate of your mpeg files?
(the 525 has a 2X drive so you can't go over 2600Kb/s...)
What's the encoder are u using for?
(cleaner before version 6 has a lots of problems with 480x576 res...)
The original movie is interlaced or progressive?

the file i am burning is the two towers svcd. i have experienced problems with all my svcds that i have burnt recently. they play perfectly on my computer, but on my pioneer they are horrible....

Carmine, I use Toast 5.2.
Once you have your 4 files(including toc and pre-gap)
Drop only these 2 files
videocd_01.img
videocd_02.img
in Toast under the heading
"Multitrack CD-rom XA"
Click burn. Thats it. -
yeah thats what ive been doing. the file starts playing, but a littel bit into the svcd, it starts stuttering.

update: i tried burning at 2x. it appears that the problems is with the player. the svcd play fine on my cpu, and on other standalone players. what is the best way to clean my player?

I have a 525 and have never encountered your kind of troubles. On the contrary, it plays all kinds of CDRs where other players can be quite picky. Although, I have never been able to burn a .bin file with toast and make it play in my 525 player. Haven't tried burning them with missingmediaburner.
I always extract the mpegs from the bins and make my VCD/SVCDs with VCD Builder (fantastic app, btw). I use toast for burning as slow as possible (4x with my burner). Slow burning speed is important! -
ok thanks for your help. i turned off playback control (by using the close buttin, then hitting next chapter instead of play) and it seemed to play the svcd better, but some were still messed up. it could be i was burning at higher speeds, ill try 4x.
