    What settings are you using?

Also, you might want to check your info. The audio is 5x the size of the video?

Pretty much the only thing faster (without quality loss) than TMPGEnc is CCE, but this comes with an unpleasant pricetag. Some previous discussions on this here:

Just a question, did your source AVI contain MP3 at 48000hz ?
If not, resampling step may not be required, but this will have little impact on your 3 hours encoding.

  7. If you would not mind, what is the rez of the source Divx video. Std 480x480, 720x480 or something else? Also how long is the play time of the AVI?

One thing that add to time is resizing both sound and picture to 352x240 and 44.1khz.

Also if you have two physical drive can get a bit of a speed increase by pulling from one and compressing to another.

    Good luck.

PS: To run test try setting the "Source Range" for let say 1 or 10 minuts and run some quicky test with different settings.

  8. His AVI is 173 and his wav file is 666, makes sense. Since he is turning that file into an MPG.

If you are doing a 2-pass in TMPGEnc you can increase your TEMP size to about 600meg or so and the 2nd pass will be MUCH faster.

    Other than that, use CCE.

Also a search would have provided you with an answer.

  9. The best thing is a new CPU. But CCE is about 3x faster than TMPGenc in my hands. Ulead is pretty fast too. You can get a demo of CCE 2.5 sp from doom9.org

The demo adds a watermark to the bottom right of the encoded MPEG. But rumor has it that there's a way to fix that

Anyway new CPU is really the way to go. I had a AMD K6-2 500Mhz and it took me 18hrs to encode a 90min DivX file using TMPGenc's VCD template. I then got a AMD Tbird 1.2 Ghz and it took me 1.5hrs to encode the same file. I then got an AMD XP 2200+ and it takes me 60min. (I keep this Divx file around to compare speeds as I upgrade/play with my system/s).

  10. Have you try doing the video and sound seperate?

Meaning... compress the wav file to MP2 first by HeadAc3he.
Then Video using tmpgenc without audio...
Then remux it with tmpgenc after that...

    I hope this works..
