I've lookded through the tutorials on how to convert an AVI into either a VCD or SVCD, as nothing really pertained to xvid. (I'm a big newbie when it comes to this stuff).
I got all VirtualDub to try and convert the audio track into a wav file, but when I followed the directions it and I went to save the WAV file, it wouldn't let me convert the audio if I had "full processing mode" enabled (it worked w/ direct stream).
Of the video converters, they won't allow me to convert the avi file's audio track, only the video (I presume due to the sampling rate difference?). So I need some help as to what I should do.
Like I said, I'm a complete newbie at this whole VCD/Video scene, so I may have missed something simple.
One other thing, is there an easy way to tell if my DVD player supports SVCD? I looked in this site's database of players, but mine wasn't there. I was planning on making two copies of the movie, one on VCD & one on SVCD, and seeing if the SVCD one would work, but I can't even get it to VCD, so I might be really up the creek when it comes to SVCD ^_^.
Thanks for the help.

Is this die another day DVD rip? if so there is something specific to the ac3 sound (have yet to find an explanation). Use TMPG to rip the wave out if so. Load your Xvid into TMPG, go to file - output to file - WAVE file and rip it from there. Don't know why vb fails on this one..........
you know it's the anti-Midas touch when all you touch goes to shit.............. -
hope that sorted your sound, worked for me, as far as svcd why not try it with a small sample, cds are so cheap these days..............

TMPGEnc worked fine with the Die Another Day DVD rip audio for me
I got it encoding to SVCD now -
There are sample files in various formats under TOOLS - use the SVCD sample and burn it to a CD to see if your player can handle it.
As VDub obviously can't determine what codec to use for the audio, it can't process it, so direct stream copy is the only option available.
This has nothing to do with the XviD encoding of the AVI. If it really is AC3, then save it out using direct stream, then rename from wav(?) to ac3 and use HeadAC3he to decode to wav.
