  1. I read somewhere that 6.5 has a great built in compression filter for DV to SVCD but I am unable to find it. Anyone know what I am talking about? Was something under File/ Export Timeline/ at the bottom I only have 2 options 1 being EDL or 2 Advanced Windows Media. Should'nt I have a 3rd option? Maybe I'm crazy, thanks.

    Hi Lear

As Premiere6.5 loads, do you see 'Adobe MPEG Encoder' loading in? Under Export Timeline, the Adobe MPEG Encoder should be under EDL. Maybe when you installed Premier6.5 you didn't install the mpeg encoder.

I did a comparison between Premier and TMPGEnc using VBR, same bitrate etc. for a DVD Mpeg encoding and they both took about the same time. But the Q level of TMPGEnc was half of Premier when checked with bitrate viewer and TMPGEnc file looked much better.

  4. I watched the startup and didnt see the "adobe MPEG incoder" load, unless it was really quick. Is it on the disk somewhere hiding? Not familiar with the "Q level" level either. Are you saying I shlouldnt worry bout it, and just use TMPGEnc? I tried to use it in 6.0 but had a ton of trouble, being that I know nada about it, I 'm sure didnt help though. =) Thanks again for the info.
BJ where would I find this update? Adobe? I'm off to look now. Thanks

    Hello Lear

BitRate Viewer is a freeware program that analyses a MPEG file and tells the bit rate, quality and more. Do a google search for bitrateviewer.

I tried a 2 min DV.avi clip and was not impressed with premier mpeg encoding. But you should judge for yourself if you could.

When loading Premier, Adobe MPEG Encoder shows for about 3 seconds.

Would like to know more about the 'update for premier6.5'.

Have had a lot of experience doing this....
Premiere Has a very good template for NTSC SVCD built in
under the EXPORT TIMELINE file menu selection
you will find the new MPEG ENCODER beneath the MOVIE export default..
The MAIN CONCEPT codec is used for this

You can also get the same thing from SONIC FOUNDRY's VEGAS VIDEO 3.0
this uses the same engine to produce excellent SVCD template. For various reasons, the SONIC FOUNDRY product always runs much faster.

For my 2cents, these programs beat out TMPG as good as it is

As BJ_M suggests; go to Adobe Premiere forum. There is a major issue with loading the MPEG encoder. Many people have problems, many due to 6.5 upgrade from 6.0. Your questions will be answered there.

  12. Yup, you guys were right! Thanks, if anyone else has this prob, it's caused by a previous version of premiere. It mus be uninstalled, then you have to goto your adobe folder, premiere is still in there! Delete it, then type "regedit" in START/RUN goto local machine/software premiere is still there! Damn, erase that 1 too. Then reinstall, should work ok now. Now if I can just figure out why EasyCD Creator wont recognize it!!!! Later
