Who has an excellent Tmpgenc template for squeezing a 144min ( ??? ) movie onto 2x80min cds in xvcd 352x240 format.
All the templates I have tried ( including kvcd) seem to give me bigger than expected files. Even my attempts to alter the vbr to low 500kbs give me the same size file as a 1500kbs vbr UNLESS I choose to make the system (last tab in tmpg settings) a Mpeg-1 system instead of a Mpeg-1 nonstandard video-cd. The resulting 500kbs vbr file is actually not that bad apart from some parts ( more colour more action -ie. swimming pool) that are extremely blocky.

Read about file size prediction here, and at 352x240, you can put "Minority Report" on one CD and it will look just like a standard VCD. Read here: http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2102
Or pick up a HUGE mug of coffe and read this whole section: http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=27

I think your problem is TMPGEng 2.5.9 wich just can't mux XVCD. Try an older version and your template should work.

I did that movie in two CD's last week using a CVD template and it looks excellent, of course the movie is 16:9 aspect ratio ant that helps alot.
I just loaded the standard SVCD film template, changed the resolution to 352x480, two pass VBR, average 1270 kbps with 300kbps as minimum and 2560 as maximum, and soften block noise enabled. after the encoded finished I remuxed using SVCD VBR as the stream type. and I ended with two 798 Mb files that play in my Apex 1100W DVD player once I burn them using nero non-compliant SVCD option. -
I wonder if my only problem was thinking I had to be able to make my mpg in the VCD-non standard format rather then just using the Mpeg1 system ( automatic or variable ) format. I'm not sure what the purpose of the non-standard vcd setting is.
Kwag,
Your clip does look good and gave me cause to try your templates a bit more but I found that the enhancement seemed to have more to do with the dimensions of the mpeg they produce than anything else. At least that is my opinion. I tried using one of your 352x480 improved templates with more normal 352x240 dimensions and got a result similar to anything else of the same filesize.
filerabe,
I tried an older version but the same thing happened but then my first statement in this reply might be my answer.
penamty,
Well that seemed to work with a reasonable sized resulting file but if it's vcd, svcd, xvcd or even dvd( maybe) ANY of them made into the same size file seem to look the same to me - my eyesight probably needs checking. -

hi kwag,
It doesn't help that your website is confusing to me and your answers are not specific enough.
My movie is NTSC 4:3 ratio. Minority Report - 144mins.
Which template EXACTLY should I use for one cd.
Which template EXACTLY should I use for two cds.
I just used a kcvdx3 template and got a good result BUT double the file size I need. -

In both cases, use file prediction.

Well, I'm off to see the optician because I'm damned if I can see much difference about anything.
Maybe I need to see a sample of a more animated and more brightly lit film sequence in a 4:3 formatted film to be convinced because I think the K-19 segment you use is a perfect piece for showing off mpg conversions at their best and not a good TEST of your template.
A comparison between a test mpg made with your gop setting and another with the default setting showed no difference that I could see. I'll have to go and dig out a 16:9 movie with dark little animated segments to see if I have more success. -
Maybe this
