  1. I am trying to convert a 30min video from a DV camcorder to SVCD. But every time I play it on my Pioneer DVD-505 home player it is in wide screen format. The only way I can get it to play on the home player without the horizontal black bars on the top and bottom is to turn on the players 4:3 Pan&Zoom. It plays in non-widescreen mode on the computer using Sasimi2k or Windows Media Player. Is there a way to get it to play full screen on the home DVD player? I have spent the last week reading this site's guides, forums and trying different settings in TMPGenc. Still no luck.

The video was captured from a Sony DV camcorder using Scenalyzer Live as Type 1 AVI via firewire. The video was then edited in Medio Studio Pro 6. Medio Studio lists the output format as:
    NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
    Frame-based
    Overlay track(s):3
    Microsoft AVI Files
    24 Bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
DV Video Encoder -- type 1
PCM, 32.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo

I then used TMPGenc to convert to SVCD mpg using the wizard.
The wizard sets the following on the Expert Setting for Source page:
    Video Type: Interlace
Field Order: Bottom Field first (B)
    Aspect Ratio: 4:3 525 line (NTSC 704x480)
    Content: Video Movie

On the Video Tab, I set Rate control to CBR and Motion Search Percision to High quality(slow).

On the Advance Tab, I have tried setting the Video Arrange method to Full Screen, Full Screen Keep Aspect Ratio, Full Screen Keep Aspect Ratio 2, and No Margins.

I have also tried changing the Source Aspect Ratio to 1:1 VGA.

I am using TMPGEnc 2.59.47.155 and VCDEasy 1.1.3 for the conversion to SVCD.

I am new to creating video cds. I am probably just overlooking a setting somewhere.

    Thanks
    Tim

Yo tim, mmmmmmmm try encoding with all those settings but useing an aspect ratio of 480X480 instead. But do small encodes - about 10 - 30 secs and then burn onto a CDRW so u dont spend so much time encodin (just in case different tactics don t work)

Is your TV 4:3? You should also consider your source. Does it have the black bars encoded in the movie itself? It sounds like an aspect ratio problem, simply becuase you suggested that Windows Media Player doesn't exhibit the problem. Windows Media Player doesn't understand DAR (aspect ratio) flags.

Depending on your standalone player's settings in regards to your TV type (16:9, or 4:3), and the DAR flags on your MPEG, you could get all sorts of results.
Impossible to see the future is. The Dark Side clouds everything...

  4. It appears I am not the only one with this problem on Pioneer DVD players.

    See this thread.
