  1. Hi,

I have an AVI file that was shot on a pro camera. The footage was shot in widescreen but the file plays back at 4:3 with the footage squashed. I tihnk I need to fix the widescreen flag. Is this possible with an AVI?

I have tried with 'MPEG4 MODIFIER' but it won't open the file - says it is not valid. In AVICODEC the files reads as: Intel Indeo R5 1.

Any feedback would very much be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Rob.

First get a screenshot of or post the results from gspot here.

Second what are you trying to do with it? If you're going to DVD with it you can just set the flag during the authoring stage.

Third if the 16:9 flag is set correctly the right aspect during playback depends on the player and the codec.

  3. Intel Indeo R5 1 -- yuck. There's no DAR flag there.

For viewing you can just use a player that lets you force the aspect ratio (MPC, VLC, KMPLayer).

    Otherwise you'll have to reencode.

You can set the flag with WME or change the resolution if you want WMV, is that file from your own cam?

  6. Thanks for your replies guys.

I managed to fix it as follows:

    - I set my project to widescreen in Adobe Prem Elements
    - I then imported the file and 'interpreted' it as widescreen
    - I set the output file pixel ratio to square pixel (0,1)
    - Output the file at 720*405 (pal) for widescreen.

    Thanks,

    Rob.
