  1. Just got my first dvd burner but i am having problems with the media i have puchased.

Datawrite classic dvd-r wont write at all it gives a calibration error.

Datasafe dvd-rw writes and plays correctly in standalone but A05 will not read it or erase it properly.

Before i waste more money what media do you all use and where can i get it?

i have seen some Bulkpaq and Ritek and good prices!

Not to worried on speed at the moment just as long as i can use them.

  2. i get the same error for the datawrite classics. dont bother with eproformance discs either, the drive doesnt recognise them.

I have no problems with the datasafe dvd-rw's though. Not sure what is wrong there. What program are you using to burn them with?

I have burnt tdk media at 2x sucessfully on the 105, but i normally use traxdata discs (98p from www.121cdr.co.uk) which are only 1x, but they burn and play perfectly in the 105 and standalones.

Aparently there will be a firmware upgrade sometime early in the new year to improve media compatability - or so i hear but i dont know whether this is true or not.

  3. I have used these and so far no coasters. I bought the sampler pack and so far all the samples have burned and played in both of my dvd players.

  4. Thanks for the quick replies.

I will try the Traxdata when cdr121 get them back in stock as this is where i normally get my media.
That is where i also got the Datasafe dvd-rw? I have to keep reinserting the dvd to get the A05 to read it after writing, same with erasing!
I have used Nero & dvd movie factory to burn!

  5. Blimey 121cdr are out of stock of traxdata already! they were only back in stock last thursday and i ordered a load - good job i did!! They certainly are the best disc i have used, excellent quality and fairly cheap.

Are your datasafe rw's are black with yellow bits on them? these are the ones i use and they deffo work for me! i use the very latest version of nero - 5.5.9.17 which erases and burns them fine. Infact, one is burning as i type! Maybe datasafe switched dyes or something that they use in them. ive had these discs since i got the burner about 3 weeks ago (but i had it on order for 2 weeks prior, so i dont know exactly how old these discs are)

  6. just as a further help to you, here is the disc ID for the datasafe rw's i have:

    00 42 00 00 01 40 D6 FD 9E D8 20 00 02 0E 07 05 .B...@.... .....
    88 76 09 00 03 50 52 49 4E 43 4F 00 04 00 00 00 .V...PRINCO.....
    00 00 00 00 05 0B AC 76 0C 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 .......V........

if it matches yours then i have no idea why your rw's dont work!

  7. Yes the rw's are the same, i got them about about 2 weeks ago along with my burner also from 121cdr.

Only difference is i am using Nero 55914!

  8. ah then i would pin the blame on nero - try downloading the upgrade patch from their website. Ive heard that the latest version of nero is the only one which burns dvd's well.

Hopefully that will sort out your problem!

  9. my recommendation would be the green top bulkpaq 2x media burnt loads in my 105 with no problems at all, a good cheap 2 x media.

  10. Yes they work fine with newer version of Nero, thanks androidsdungeon!

Cant find any Green top bulpaq media though MrE.

  11. avoid the princo dvd-rw, the dvr-105 will burn the disk, but it won't be able to read back the data. the same disk will read fine on a dvd-rom and even a dvd player.

i've tried ritek g03 with good results, except that it'll burn at only 1x instead of the rated 2x.

i've also tried the generic dvd-r (1x) from hypermicro without any problems.

  12. most interesting...

i've checked the disk ID of my princo dvd-rw and it is the same as the datasafe dvd-rw posted by androidsdungeon2002. however, mine are opaque white top and bluish silver bottom, instead of black with yellow bits on them as described by androidsdungeon2002.

i've also checked that i have the latest version of nero.

the burned disks also cannot be read on my laptop dvd-rom.

the dvr-105 cannot read back what it burned? what up with that?

  13. the dvd-rw's i have dont play back very well in my dvd player, it takes ages to recognise them and playback is choppy. my dvd-rom on my pc (a toshiba one) doesnt like them much either, but the 105 plays/reads them fine. my girlfriends mico clasica 20 dvd player plays them perfectly though.

have you tried burning to a dvd-r exactly the same way you burned to a dvd-rw in nero? im not burning them in any way special, just using the standard wizard options.

If it helps i have firmware 1.00 on my 105 - but i guess everyone does?

I must admit nothing springs to mind really why they dont work!

  14. yep, i'm burning the dvd-rw in the same way that i burn the dvd-r.

let's see, my princo dvd-rw cannot be read on my writer but can be read on my dvd-rom. your princo dvd-rw, with the same diskID, can be read on your writer but cannot be read on your dvd-rom. maybe we should exchange dvd-rws, then neither of us can read the burned disk in either drive. at least that'll be consistent.

i hope pioneer releases new firmware that fixes this problem and the general problem the dvr-105 has with generic media. it took some whining, but sony has done it.

  15. lol!

It's really weird i have to admit! I heard rumours about pioneer giving in on the cheap media issue and releasing a new firmware in january, but until i see an official press-release or have the drive burning to cheap media, i wont fully believe it!

  16. Have any of you tried out the RITEK DVD-R MEDIA. I have not had any problems burning at 4X with them. Try them out. I purchase them from http://www.atdiscount.com/community/cdr/index/3/200/1226/product/20613/sku

    I spoke with Mike.

I've tried several different media with my new DVR-A05 with Firmware version 1.21, So far so good

You ought to try out the 4x media, You will love the way it burns!!

I bought my first set of 4x media from http://www.supermediastore.com It works great. So far i think i am very satisfy with my new burner.

May be you ought to try out their product. I have read several posting regards to this online store and has done some research myself. Some people claim that their product are shaky other has pretty good comment. For me I have bought several time from them so far no probelm.

IF you need more help call their marketing department, REMEMBER not the tech dept. Their marketing seems more exprerience in the media then sales.

    ANYWAY

I'll Post more info once I completed all my test.
