  1. I'm planning to encode the movie Spyderman, ripped from dvd into two cds, but i don't know which format it's the best one to be used, the movie is almost 115minutes, so i tought to devide it into two cds and store 60 minutes in each one of them, if i create a xvcd i could set:
    video:1540
    audio:128

if i select a svcd, i could set:
    video average bitrate: around 1620
    audio:128
finally i could use kvcd, but i'm not sure it will be playable by all dvd standalone players, in your opinion, which is the best setting for my movie, considering quality and the rest. I'm using tmpgenc to make the work, thanks in adavance for your help, every answer will be really apreciated, bye!

It won't play in ALL standalone DVD players, but it might just play on yours
Try KVCDx3. I read somewhere on KVCD.net's forum someone put that movie on one CD at 528x480 with pretty good quality. If you just want absolute best quality, target for two CD's using the same template, and you won't be able to tell the difference from the original. If you already know how to use AviSynth and FitCD, check this thread: http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2102

  3. As for "what is the best setting" depends why you want to make the disc...

X/S/VCDs (i.e., including the KVCD templates) allow you flexibility with making your discs. The flip side is that your discs will not work on all players and are not compliant. If that's okay with you, then you may want to do this.

SVCDs will give you better quality than VCDs and are still compliant to a set standard. If future compatibility is important then choose this.

  4. I have used VCD and SVCD for a long time, VCD is OK and SVCD is better, but since going to DVD+R Burner, WOW, never do a VCD or SVCD again the quality is just remarkable.
I had a DVD rip of spiderman on SVCD, I found spreading over 3 discs was much better than over 2, then again I am watching this on a 36in TV and quality is #1 to me, can't stand any macro blocks or pixalation at all and the picture got to be sharp and the sound also is important, listening to 128 mp2 through theater sound system sucks, I don't go below 192 if you want good clear sound with deep lows. Heck when recording my home made DVD's I even use 384 for the sound.

  5. ok, thank you guys, i think i'll go for the kvcd, the main problem is that i still haven't a dvd player, and i don't know which one to buy, 'cos, someone plays svd, someones not, so the choice is really hard, in order of that, what do u think about pioneer 350 and toshiba 220e?
