  1. Hi all,
I cant seem to find a difinitive answer although it is discussed everywhere.

I am currently having to take 450MB MPG TV episode files and burn them in VCD format/NERO to watch on my 1100W

What I want is to be able to just take 9 episodes of "something", copy it to a DVD-R/RW in data/ISO mode, insert in the DVD player, have the browser pop up, chose an episode and watch it.

When I put the DVD-R in, it just shows Disc Error.

Cant the 1MB units play raw mpg's?
Is there another way to put the VCD fiules onto a DVD-R without re-encoding and make it work??

    thx

  2. Craig,

Thx for the link...I have a full licensed copy of DVDMF2 so that works out well. I see where the recommendation is to use SSRC as the external audio conversion program.

BUT, I think I am confused.
I see people talk about copying multiple RAW mpg files onto either CDR or DVDR, using a dvd player browser, and just selecting what they want to play.

Are they copying VCD's on CDR's? or DVDR's?
Is it a MUST to convert the VCD's to 48Khz to play in dvd players?
I assume SVCD's would follow the same path with just better resolution?

If I wanted to capture in a format to later burn to DVDR, what would you suggest?? SVCD?? CVD??

    thx

  3. There are a few players that will play mpeg files burned as data, but only a few. Whether yours is one of these I can't say. Most DVD players do not have this facility so the mpegs have to be properly authored for DVD compatability, this includes converting the audio to 48khz.

CVD is better if you are thinking of later converting to DVD as the CVD resolution is supported in the DVD specs. SVCD resolution is not.

  4. I own a apex 1100W 1mb model that plays raw mpg files, however, I have not done that with a DVD-R, only on CD. What are the resolutions and audio bit rates for the mpeg files. When I would goof up a cd it was because the resolution was messed up.

  5. Craig...
thx for the info. I am only looking at burning multiple "formats of some kind" onto DVDR from here on out.

    Macleod,
I think we have chatted before concerning CVD and capabilites of the 1100W. CVD is exactly 1/2DVD res and thus can be seen by about 40% of the players out there using a CDR/W...(ours being one of them)

The 2 things I am trying to do now are:

    1) Burn multiple VCD files (found on web) onto a DVDR and have them play in my 1Mb 1100W.
To do this it seems the first thing I have to do is convert the audio from 44Khz to 48Khz as outlined in a guide on this site. after that I have 2 options...
    a) try and burn the mpg's directly onto a DVDR/W using ISO mode which might enable the DVD players browser or
    b) author using DVD Movie Factory
I think the latter might get it as the guide suggests it works.

    2) Capture upcoming shows using my capture card in a mode that is better than VCD, smaller than DVD format itself, yet still DVD compliant. I could use the SVCD format and do the header trick I have read about, but I think that adds another step I do not want. That is why I chose CVD. I would still have to upconvert the audio unless the app I use to capture (DVDMF2 or WinPVR) will let me chose 48Khz along with the CVD resolution. Then I should just be able to author it and go right on.

    Have I missed anything anyone???

    thx

it'll play anything, including raw mpeg DVD data
discs, NOT AVI'S THOUGH....got 2 of these so far,
plus an older model, good for region hacks also..
sampo612n sells for 69$ also, hurry though, not
many left, also last year a model they made was

Have you tried burning a few Mpeg files to a CD-R/RW disk with Nero in ISO mode? If that works in your 1100W then a DVD-R disk should work.

As for the audio, I find it better to leave the audio at 44.1Khz as my Apex AD1200 starts to choke if it's changed to 48Khz.

  9. Mega,

I dont think I tried Raw Mpegs on a CDRW. I assume it will work tho. I did try the raw Mpegs on a DVDRW tho and it had the error. Only think I can think of is that sinces it is recognized as a DVD media, that it wants 48khz ahdio

As for your 48khz audio problem...I assume that is being burnt on a CDRW??

The 48Khz audio problem occurs on DVDR and CDR disks.

I believe when the DVDR and CDR disks are burned as data disks, the DVD player treats them the same. The only difference being the capacity. When the disk is inserted, it should bring up the browser with folders on one side and Mpeg files on the other.

Since your 1100W can't read the disk at all, I suspect it's a burning problem. I use Nero 5.5.9.0 and DVD+R/RW disks.

  11. Mega,

    I tried a test....
I burnt 2 MPG's on a CDRW using my Liteon CDRW drive and it worked fine...Showed up in Folder mode and showed both files

Then I burnt those 2 same MPG files using my Pioneer DV4 onto an Optodisc DVD-RW disc. (These discs work great on my player)
    I got the "Disc Error"

I used Nero 5.5.9.17 on both.

I am gonna try and use the VCDDVDR guide since I own DVDMF2. Maybe that will let it work.

    thx for the ongoing help
