Could you PLEASE tell us more. What tools you used and settings.

And wait at least some days before you bump your topic.

Sorry I am used to going to a huge message board on GameFAQs.com where you bump topics after about 30 minutes. Anyway.
I want mostly avi files made into DVD format with sound without having to use TMPGEnc or if I do use that I don't want it to take 2 and a half hours for a 20 minute video. I have a 1.2 GHz AMD Athlon processor and 384 megs of RAM and a GeForce 2.

The only reason I use TMPGEnc is because when my other program which converts it faster does it it has no sound. Can I fix this somehow?

  8. I'm looking at your specs and have come down to two conclusions-

1)You probably used high settings for it to take that long. Nothing wrong with that, but perhaps next time you should do it, and then go to sleep so you can wake up and its done

2)Your pc itself. You are usinga 1.2 Ghz T-bird. The T-bird never had compatability with SIMD instructions and perhaps this is what slowed you down - it might bemore noticable as you'd see "hiccups" in games (The AthlonXP has these instructions [save for SSE-2] and a much powerful FPU to boot) or other applications. You are also not using the fastest RAM known to man. PC133 is fine, but if you had a faster kind (I can't tell if your motherboard will support DDR because you didn't list the make) of ram that might make a difference.

Also your HDs make a difference. The harddrive is the most overlooked aspect when it comes to speed (most care for size), and it makes a lot of difference if you can get a faster one because it is ALWAYS the bottleneck in any situation. Is it a ATA33/66/100/133? That isn't the most important part though - look at the seek time. True 7200 RPM is faster, but if a 5400 RPM has a lower seek time AND it can read more data per "rotation" then that would be viable option.

And last but not least, We have no idea what your motherboard is. The KT266a was such an improvement over the KT266 (I'm guessing you are running a KT133a....) that people were literally getting much better results- IE- 20-30 FPS higher in games... Same with the NForce2 and the KT-400 (If there are any Intelers that want to add some of their own lingo add it :P ). When running games in lower resoutlions (800*600) the nforce2 was about 20 FPS faster...Also is applications it finished "stuff" faster

Because if you have abad motherboard, the fastest processor in the world can't do anything. That is why "I dislike it when I know people who go buy that beefed up CPU but skimp on the MOBO as if it isn't important

I'm not sure how that would convert to encoding, should make some kind of difference jumping kt266 to kt266a ( though that is more of an extreme example)

Because oddly when I try to make a SVCD I stick it at a bitrate of 2000 and it takes me about 20 minutes to encode and all (when it actually reaches 100%).
