  1. I have version 7.6 of the ATI Mulitimedia Center. It looks like I can capture direct to various formats, one of them being mpeg 1. However when I do this the PC locks up. The quality is great of the video (captured from TV). Sometimes it creates a .mp2 file, but nothing seems to play it. Other times it captures the video, but during playback it looks like watching regular TV with the antenna needing adjustment, as well as the vertical hold.

    Ideas?

  2. Upgrade to 7.7. I have been capturing to DVD mpeg2 all week long. I have been converting some old 8mm Family videos. No problems at all. I have the ATI AIW 7500. Which capture card are you using. Also make sure all your drivers are updated. ESPECIALLY THE MOTHERBOARD DRIVERS...

Should that be the MMC-7-7-0-1-noDVD.exe file from ATI?

I have the ATI AIW Rage Pro 8MB (AGP).

So is that .mp2 file able to directly play on a DVD player?

I think if I can get it to .mpg I should be able to use the Pinncale Studio 8 program to make it to VCD (with some menus etc).

  4. I would rename the mp2 file to mpeg. I believe the mp2 file is a true mpeg 2 file. Its the player that decided which codec to use to decode it. You may need to install win dvd or power dvd to play it back though. I know some of the Apex dvd players will play the mpg file back directly. But for it to be a true DVD you need to author it with a tool such as Mydvd, ArcSoft Sonic or a similiar tool. It will transcode it to a VOB file and burn it to a DVD if this is what you are looking to do. MMC 7.7 is the newest and it saves it with the mpg extension. However I don't know if it will work with your card. All I can say is try it.
