  1. Im trying to convert a DVD Rip of Ninja Scroll which is

    29.9 FPS , 720 X 480 , Audio is Decompressed ,

Broke the movie in 2 so part [1] is 45 minutes and and 32 Seconds.

I loaded the AVI in TMPGEnc to make it into a Non Standard Super Video CD and I was looking around in the options to change some stuff around and I came across the " Convert to 24 FPS Flicker Priortized " option and was wondering if it would be a good idea to convert the movie to 24 FPS from 29.9 FPS which I think is better. If it is not a good idea someone please explain as to why...

If the movie was originally done at 24fps and converted to 30 you would probably want to try to IVTC it. If it was done at 30 to begin with converting to 24 will make playback jerky because of the removed frames.

That said, I've heard that anime (and other animated material) is sometimes actually done at odd low framerates and converted up to the final format's rate. I don't know how converting to 24 would affect that, it would probably depend on what the original rate was and how it was converted.

  3. what is IVTC...also is their anyway to find out what the original framerate was...cuz I don't think their is a way. Im thinking about leaving it just as it is.

IVTC is inverse telecine. 24fps progressive material is converted to 30fps interlaced for NTSC playback or broadcast by a method called telecine, inverse telecine reverses the process to recover the 24fps progressive source.

I suppose that the only real way to tell if the animated material started out at some other frame rate is to step through a fast-motion scene frame by frame and look for a pattern of duplicate or blended frames.

  5. I understand what your saying...I think I will leave the FPS setting as it is instead of converting it to 24FPS from 29.9 I think it would be better to just leave it alone. If anyone disagrees please say so.
