  1. Was told that this is a rebadged Pioneer A04

    It's a -r (dash r) drive, I prefer a +r, but if you want -

    http://images.officemax.com/images/slot_images/1128L_P01_4C01.jpg

Probably only valid in store on Friday and Saturday 11/29-11/30

There are coupons for an extra $30 off, but electronic coupons
online will not work as this item can not be find on officemax.com website.

I got the A05 for $169 at OfficeMax too. It was labeled $299 with a $50 mail in rebate. It rang up at $219 and still has the $50 rebate so it ends up being $169+tax!!! WooHoo!!!! They had two different box styles but the guy working there said there were the same and had the same UPC. I made sure mine said 4x DVD-R and A105 on the box.

  8. Very few people were able to get them they only had like 5 0r 6 for the whole store, Im very lucky and was surprised I got the AO5 I couldnt believe it when I saw it. I love it.

Thank god I didnt order the DRU500A and pay over $100 more dollars and miss it out this incredible deal.

  9. Officemax only had like 3 here.

So I went to staples with the ad.

had them price match it (it's $219 before the rebates).

Then used a $30 off $150 coupon so it was $205 total w/tax at the
    register.

There is also a $50 mail in rebate from cendyne.

    Total $155. Not bad.

Go back and talk to the manager. There is no reason they shouldn't price match.

    Thats total BS.
    Quote Quote
  12. thats the whole point of price matching.. coz the other guyz have it on lower price... as long as its on the same condition i.e. (brand new to brand new not b/new to refurbished) they should have no reason not to price match it whatsoever.. trust me i know i use to work at a retail store..

I checked mine before installing. It was an A105. It also shows up in my burning software as A05/A105.

I got up early, real early and got in line at officmax to get one of these. The line was not too long and I was near the front door. The weather was not as bad as in some years on the day after TD. I went straight for the Cendyne DVD and NO BOX with the purchase slips. There was only one person ahead of me for one of these DVD-R's and the OFFmax man told me he would bring one out to me from the store room and they had plenty of them.

I made another purchase selection and was at the check-out waiting for my drive to purchase. This OFFmaxman knew exactly where I was, I told him I would be at the checkout and even waved at him and he acknowledged me back as he went to the side room for the drive. While I was waiting at the checkout he emerged with a stack of the drives but he passed them out to what looked like friends of his and then came over to me at the checkout said they were out. BS I saw him hand out the stack of DVD burnners to friends. Rude, very rude.

FIRST COME should be FIRST SERVED!

Salesmen should NOT LIE to the customers.

Needless to say I left my other merchandise on the checkout counter, complained about the rude treatment and left. While I had not complained before, I have shopped less and less at OFFmax because of prior problems with sales merchandise. Either they didn't get the items in, ran out or otherwise made a wasted trip to OFFmax for not. At the local OFFmax store I often find several clerks BSing in back near copy-max or such instead of waiting on customers.

I went to Circuit City next door and was treated just the opposite. They were very nice and helpfull. I did not get a DVD burnner but did make other purchases there. I usually fight the crowds on TD+1 and expect less than perfect conditions. However, I have never been treated so rude and unfairly before. After making my purchases at CC I decided to just go home, I had had enough from my ordeal ot OFFmax.

Too bad Staples left town, OFFmax is about the only place I can get my larger copy jobs done.

maybe I can find a deal at the computer show tomorrow, who knows. I do have a Panasonic E-30 DVD recorder and Pacific Digital DVD-R/ram burner and can live w/o another, but I do not like being lied to and treated the way OFFmax treated me.

In short I got BURNNED (again) at OFFmax instead of a burnner.

JD I'm H T and MAD! (at OFFmax that is.

  16. You guys are all in for a surprise. I bought one of those AO5 burners the day it came out. I can't burn at 4x unless I use Pioneer 4x media at $16 a pop. Until some firmware upgrades are available we are all stuck buring at 2x with our new 4x burners. (Unless we want to spend the cash, I sure don't!!)

yeah, i already knew that, and that was kind of expected...but the idea is: we got something more than what we were necessarily originally going to pay for...and plus, it's better to have the more advanced hardware now, even though it can't be fully used, than having to buy another one some time down the road

the 4x prices will come down eventually

  18. well the ******* at staples didnt give me the pricematch, but I still picked up the a04 for 199 anyway. I dont think its a bad deal. Too bad I only have this one -rw to play with until a spindle of -r's arrives.

Is that $199 at the register or with the cendyne rebate kicked in?

either way, at least you ended up with a decent deal..

the guy at staples wasn't going to do the PM for me either, until I told him

"you wouldn't want to jeapordize my corporate account with staples over this minor issue do you?"

that ended the PM discussion, lol. And no, I don't have a corporate account.

I mail them and they don't have a european distributor and also they don't ship outside US.
    Shit.....

By the way, about prices: The first wave of pioneer 105 here, arrived in the market about 3 weeks ago was about 440euros a piece with tax.
3 weeks later the second wave is 299 euros! (it comes wendsday
The third wave, expected about 8 January, gonna cost ... 220 euros!
And suprise, this is about the price of that Cendyne drive...

Something tell me just to wait a month and buy it online for a crazy price like 180$....

There is a european distribution channel (pioneer germany) and I have some friends there. They mailed me that after christmass, the price gonna be about 220 euros.
Their first order end about 440 euros in my country. Their second order is now distributed about 300 euros.
I can buy a pioneer 105 now for 299 euros.

After christmass, a new "wave" of orders is comming (to fill the gap of the hollidays). It is expected about 8 january and a week later to their distribution channels. The price gonna be about 220 euros.

Ofcourse you realise that those prices are with no local taxes. For example, the 105 now costs 299 but with 18% tax is about 350 euros

  23. I think evryone knows the 105's arent gonna burn at 4x with
2x media, but most are happy they got a hell of a deal to get
the latest and the greatest at HALF-OFF, sure we'll have to
wait for firmware update, both official and unofficial, but
who could resist a deal like that at officemax, and sure you'll
always hear horror stories like the previous one,....officemax
isnt really know for any deals anyway...
    Quote Quote
  24. You cant get a better deal then the office max deal, for the guy who said that you can only use pioneer 4X cd's, the price will go down they always Im sure their will be some firmware later on.

  25. SatStorm - Thanks for the info.
It's interesting because I'll soon going back from the USA to France and want to make sure I buy all the good stuff here at a resaonable price.
I picked up an A04 at OM for $188 (with Tax AR) so it seems from your info that it will take a while to see these prices in France.
    Probably a good deal then!
    Thanks

The DVD-RW that came with mine was a x1, I assume. With Nero, 1x burning was my only option.
